Double Bass the ideal eub?

I don't really consider myself as just starting out as I've been playing URB for quite some time now. My starting out on the EUB was with the WAV4, and I don't think the Stagg is a step up from the WAV, is it?

My main aim for this post is that most EUB's are designed as a flat slab. Some have a URB like neck, but it stops at that. My problem is not the lacking of an actual URB sound, I use mine as a rehearsal instument, I gig with the real thing. But for a rehearsal instrument the DB-like-feel is extra important and I think a similar center of gravity and a full size neck heel is a part of that.

There are several good upmarket EUB's that fit the bill, as people have shown in this thread. but I'm controlling my gas, as I'm not looking for a gigging instrument and I want to lug it around without any worries.

Finally I had some time to try out TheSuzie's idea. I made a prototype of a new stand for the wav with a more URB like feel. Tried it out last night and it really works. The wav felt much more like a URB in my hands. It was easier to play large intervals and to stick to URB technique.

There's still some tinkering to do to get it right completely. I'm not happy with the connection of the fake side bout. After that I might make a final one using better wood types. This one is all cheap pine. It would be nice to make it collapsible too.

For me this is a major improvement over the original endpin stand.

It probably does, but the last time I saw one for sale the guy was asking 3000 euro's, and I haven't seen one since. As I'm mostly using my EUB for rehearsals and am not making any money with music those prices are a bit steep for me. For the time being I'm quite happy with my diy solution

That looks pretty cool. Just the sort of thing I had in mind. I have been considering doing something similar to my Ergo if I ever manage to get the thing back from storage.

Peace,

I mean not to find & buy one, it must be expensive...but maybe copy the design since it has been proven to works.

Isn't that basically a Yamaha Silent Bass? I believe they have what you are looking for, don't they?

I've tried the first model silent bass once and wasn't that impressed with the sound. I hear the later versions are much better. Also they sort of make my original point: the Silent Bass mimics the shape of a bass from side to side, but has only a very short neck heel. I think the depth of the instrument and the resulting balance when holding it upright is important to the playability. My DIY contraption does not solve this as well, as there is still to much weight in the front of the instrument.
