"A big up to you John for having the continued decency to come and help any of the people out who experience a problem. A rare commodity indeed.
I always stick a John East pre in anything that doesn’t have an outstanding character of its own, and I can honestly say that I’ve never had a single issue with any of them, thanks."​

That was a really big part of why I chose to purchase one of these preamps. Not only were the reviews amazing, but the personal care and support seemed second to none (and is proving itself out). It means a lot to me and is really appreciated. Thank you again, John.

That is amazing!

My first J Retro Deluxe took 4 weeks to arrive and considering the epic cluster-you-know-what going on around us, I thought that was pretty good! That was April 2020 (yeah, watching every red dime of work vanishing, order a boutique preamp from across the Atlantic, sounds logical, right?….:roflmao:).

I’m really close to ordering another J Retro Deluxe for no other reason than to have a spare on hand. I’ve no reason whatsoever to think my current J Retro Deluxe is about to fail, but with the duty that bass serves, I’d hate for the electronics to go out and not have a spare (wish I could afford another WD800, too!).

That's a match right there John East and wd800 you should have no issues eqing your mix there.i love that combo I also got mine ran with a hartke hydrive 2x10 so it's loud and and light weight too

Thanks again for the suggestions. I opened up the back and it is not screened and doesn't appear to be grounded with copper foil. The cavity has a metal bottom, but bare wood on the sides. I took some photos below.

I went to remove the pickup wires to try your suggestion, but it appears there are other wires inserted into the pickup connectors, along with the pickups. Not having any technical knowledge in this, I balked and closed it back up. I may just take it to another technician and have them look at it. I did take some photos that I posted below.

Thank you for your suggestions. I really appreciate it, I just got nervous I would make matters worse if something was set up wrong and I didn't realize it.

Previously we used the postal systems, Royal Mail in the UK, linking up with USPS in the USA. They quote 5-7 working days but there's no guarantee, as illustrated by your experiences.

So we moved over to FedEx Priority which is often next day or within a few days from the UK to USA, all handled by one company including customs.

Mr. @John East I bought chrome knobs (from your site) to slap on an MMSR that originally had black knobs.

The ID of the chrome knobs is smaller than the posts on the MMSR pot. I didn't see multiple options on the site for single knobs (I saw you have multiple diameter options for stacked pots)

What did I miss and are chrome knobs for the MMSR available?

Can you email pics of your MMSR, the black and chrome knobs are the same diameter.
(Very recent units have 6.35mm 1/4" shafts, with appropriate chrome knobs, we don't hold 1/4" black knobs)

Just adding this fir reference.

  • Left is the chrome I bought direct
  • Center is the black that came with MMSR 1 from BBG
  • Right is a black one from another bass with UNI 5
