The little things…

I use a StarMap app and gander at the planets. Texas, even here in Plano, has a very nice Star-planet pattern almost year-round. I guess I could look for a decent telescope used with a tripod.

'I have very nice binoculars but I'm wobbly.
Word of advice from a long-time astronomer...don't skimp on the tripod. Nothing takes the fun out of the hobby than a flimsy and shaky tripod. Most people think only of the telescope when purchasing a set-up. Truth is, the mount and tripod are equally important, but often overlooked. A thousand-dollar scope on a hundred-dollar tripod is a ticket to a quick exit from the hobby due to the frustration of trying to focus something that shakes and dances every time you touch it or have a slight breeze.

So. Maybe a thread for just… Stuff that’s real nice?

- Morning coffee. Whatever the day holds, there’s at least going to be a few minutes of hot, soothing loveliness.
This has to be quoted for truth! A coffee and a small cookie to go with it... Simple, available everytime for everyone, noone can take that away from you. I go to bed looking forward to treating myself to that in the morning. I have even put my alarm 15 minutes early to enjoy that cup in total peace.

I'll add to your list:
- fresh sheets. Honestly. Quality of life just doubles with fresh sheets.
- A mediocre sound system at least. I can't believe how many people go around these days listening to music through TV, laptop or even phone speakers exclusively. There's bluetooth speakers availabe for 50 bucks that sound way better than they should.

The Commodores slid right on by here, on account of all the pop:) I don't dislike it. Thanks for the tip.
Now, back to the more serious stuff, things that go bump in the night.
For me, the later pop stuff (including Lionel Richie's solo career) is PB&J, potato chips, and store-bought cookies. A pleasant enough meal. The earlier stuff, like "The Bump," "Fancy Dancer," and "Machine Gun," is homemade Southern fried chicken, collard greens, and sweet potato pie, comparatively speaking.

This deck, these two have been keeping us company for a good while now, lording over the table like umpires. The other two, on the nine card, whilst in such good company, serve as a gentle reminder of a different world.

I use this deck, these days, whenever I play patience.

They're from Steve Parish, who's been bringing the outside inside for a long time now, bless his heart. Excellent cards in every way. His images are cherished by many: rewarding insights into the hidden world and some of the wildlife residing. While the game's a little more challenging without the usual cues, the rewards are substantial, if you're anything like me. Some cards are more intriguing than others.

Imagine being on a road like this one on the nine card, with so much beauty everywhere, and all you're wanting to do is butt yourself up — like a deranged, wet-nosed, leg-rutting labradoodle, mount the tailpipe of the only other vehicle, the only other source of carcinogenic pollution, for miles on end, and, in so doing, put everyone in the picture in grave danger, including yourself and your passengers. All the while, being mindful, of the little things.

In the foreground, there's a road repair. The blacktop patch indicates that there's been cause to re-engineer the storm-water system here, where, prior to the repair, there would've been a failure, some pooling — overflow in a heavy rain creating a hazard for motorists.

Tailgating, you wouldn't stand a chance. You'd plow right in. Little thing, not a good idea.

Darn right!
No one can sit still for this one, and no words are needed.
