i was reading the thread started by Twocan entitled "you look like a bass player.

i noticed that some of the players mentioned how they are bigger guys, with bald heads, and goatees. thats when i realized that not only do i fit that description, but many of the bassists that i have met also fit the description.

do you guys think theres anything to this? are we as bassists prone to looking like this? its most likely just a coincidence, but id like to hear what you have to say. whether you agree with me or not.

now, i have noticed that most of the threads i have created have started fights. i dont want to bother the moderators so please behave guys. i just want a friendly discussion.

I thought that drummers only recently learned to walk upright and here you guys are convincing me that bass players knuckles drag the ground. .......I weight 300 but my mind still tells me I'm at 180 and young!

But I have noticed that trend, and I'd add that in any band photo they guy with the beret is the bass player.

Heck I would be glad just to see more bass player where I live, even if they were all fat old hat wearing guys with beards.

By the way, I'm 6'1" 180 lbs and sport a trimmed to stubble beard (wife digs it and I don't have to drag sharp objects across my face). No hat, ever.

Interesting. I'm not bald, but I do have beard (full) and occasionally wear a black hat on stage.. no tattoos though, which is becoming increasingly rare as a musician.

Yep, I'm tall, thin and bald.... yet I'm the band's lead singer so that gives me an extra edge.

Nope. I'm 1m70, weigh about 70 kilos, have a full head of hair, (currently en route to below-the-shoulder-length again) and a hulk-hoganesque 'stache. I never wear hats. Perhaps a baseballcap from time to time. So, I don't comply.

I'm a thin effeminate white guy with almost 3 foot long hair, most people mistake me for a lead guitarist even after my band plays a set with multiple isolated bass intros/outros/solos.

I'm just under 6 foot, with no facial hair and a semi-mop-top. I wear shorts (colourful ones, not dark ones) but no hats. I also wear glasses. Am I bassist then?
