The Low End Bass Shop, Brian Barrett

I've known Brian for quite a few years now, though I haven't been to the store since we both moved from Memphis. How many years has the Low End been around Brian? I remember when I met you that I was shocked that I hadn't known about the shop before. Anyway, I just want to echo what everyone here has said. I think Brian has forgotten more about bass guitars and amplification than I will ever know in my life. Also he does things the right way. He's got real integrity, and is one of the coolest people you will ever meet.
I mean, just check out his hair!
BTW Brian, I was glad to see after years of me hinting around about a trans black Benavente, you guys finally made one!
It's beautiful, btw!

I dropped by the shop last year for the first time and had a great experience. Very relaxed and what a great selection. I've been to a couple other shops where you get a suspicious look if you start to pick up anything other that a sub $1k bass. I don't know why that is. Maybe I need to carry a copy of my credit report or something. Brian told me to play anything I wanted. I do not have the cash now, but how else would I know what bass I need to save for without playing one? That made a huge impression on me and next time I save up to buy a new bass, I will be heading Brian's way.
I also always recommend players I run into to stop by his shop while in the Nashville area.

Thanks, Brian, for just being a cool guy. I promise to spend money in there one day. :D

Several years ago I bought a Lakland DJ5 from him. He was very patient while I drilled him with questions over the course of a few days, and was very accommodating to my requests. I didn't love the bass and ended up selling it, but that's no reflection on Brian or his operation. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again or to recommend him to others.

Bought my Daniel Fernandez headless 6 string from Brian and the man is a solid professional all the way through. Have also called to inquire several times about other pieces and even though I didn't pull the trigger on any of them he was always very gracious with his time and knowledge. Will definetly do business again with him. That is if I don't get fired first from my job for spending so much time drooling over his website. :ninja:

+1 to the late night emails. I had a conversation about Kent Armstrong pickups with him around midnight as well.
Great guy, very knowledgeable. I have purchased four or five basses from the Low End Bass Shop, and a cabinet or two. He really knows how to set up a bass as well.

Yup....Brian's a good cat! Always been patient, helpful, and most of all, HONEST. Really...probably one of the most up-front cats I've met in the music business. I am a professional drummer/percussionist as well as bassist, and I have met none as truly straight-ahead as the Big B. Bravo, my man!

BTW...will my new LEJ with the slim humbuckers have the new Low End Jazz logo, or the B logo? Do I have an option, or no? Just curious...

For anyone interested, my new LEJ will have:
mahogany body
birdseye maple board
pearloid blocks AND pearloid binding (!)
daphne/sonic blue finish
white pearloid guard
standard LEJ 2 band pre
slim humbucker J pickups
ovall '66 jazz lollipop tuning keys
standard traditional jazz bass knobs/custom stack
a whole lot of bridge pickup FUNK!!!!! :D
Dunlop straplocks

I'll give this a bump to add my endorsement of Brian. I can't think of a better person from whom to buy gear. I can think of at least two occasions that he's opened the shop up for me on Saturdays when I've driven over from Knoxville, done some work on my basses, let me play around in the shop with various basses, talked shop, etc... etc... etc... Great guy to deal with all around. Above all that, I ended up placing him in a difficult situation with a deal, not intentionally, but uncomfortable nonetheless, simply because I failed to think things through as thoroughly as I should have. Still, he was very gracious about the whole thing.

I could not recommend him more highly. Thanks, Brian!

I Bought the LEJ 6/24 Classic TT Burst from Brian on yesterday and Brian got out of his bed to open the shop up for me on a non business day(Saturday), and told me to take my time in selecting my dream LEJ.

Brian is very knowledgeable of his product and is in no way a pushy business man. Unlike the other shops that frequent on the weekends.

By the way this is my 3rd LEJ.

Thank God for people like Brian.
