I have re-made this one several times, and always thought my vocal was "too screamy."
I went back and listened to the original singer a few more times, and it dawned on me that that was just his natural voice, and he sings in a higher range than I do. It was his band's biggest hit, and ironically, he quit the band over the song, just feeling it wasn't representative of his own musical direction. He was the bass player, but did not play bass on this song; the guy who did had a more "Motown" or funky feel.
I put a ton of effort into getting it to "flow easily," and finally came up with something that I hope is not too horrible. If it is, in fact, too horrible, please remember how much you paid to listen.
Just a song I always really liked a lot, for the message, the melody, and the very, very cool bassline.
