Woah - believe it or not I have played your modded Lakland DJ4. It was on sale in a Guitar Center about 2 or 3 years ago. I loved the playability and tone of it and regretted not buying it. It even had the same colored strings on it. I have to ask if you’re the original owner who sold it or the one who bought it? I’ve very curious about how the mod for the P bass pickup was done.

the yellow P and yellow jazz, are those factory finishes? they are both amazing
I bought it during that time frame. Kept the strings. I enjoy the incongruity (if you see me you'll know).
It plays well, and with the mods . . . I don't have to worry about value. If I'm with the host band at a jam, it's one of the basses I sometimes bring for players who don't bring their own.

Here’s a couple of lookalikes to two basses I currently have under construction. Sorry, no sparkle finishes here, but I do think the brushed gold and parchment pearl pickguards are going to make these both look pretty. The fretted black bass will also have gold block inlays on an ebony fingerboard.

the light green is where it's at. i think you lose too much sparkle in the dark colors!
Tectonic might be the greatest finish ever! Mine is slightly modified, but I did qualify for this theead at one point.

Well, when I sent that off to Marty to refinish, I had a Sherwood Green Adam Clayton as well, so I was covered. 
That orange sparkle burst really was/is amazing…the luthier who put it all back together and set up the bass commented that he was picking sparkle remnants out of his bench for quite some time after cleaning out tuner holes and pickup/control routes.

I did my own reassemble work, when my Stingray came back from Marty Bell. I must say, finding and redrilling all the screwholes, and cleaning out string thru ferrule holes etc etc…. It was a lot of work!! I only wish I had more basses painted by Marty. He's accepting a very limited number of jobs, I hear, while he shuts things down due to his failing eyesight.
I had a Modulus VJ that he agreed to paint but I ended up changing my mind and sold it as is. Unfortunately I think that decade that I have is the only thing I'm going to have painted by him unless I happen to buy something else second hand. I don't have any other basses where I dislike the finish enough to justify the cost of repainting. I'm actually at a point where just about everything I have is because I like it not just because it was a model I wanted and could get a good deal on it.
I’ve heard the same…ironically, Marty was the guy who recently painted the Fuchsia Sparkle StingRay black (mentioned earlier in the thread).
I saw that thread and almost thought it was a joke at first as a lot of people go to Marty for the flake finishes. Personally the Fuchsia sparkle was nothing that I'd ever own but it was a very nice finish. Seems like a lot of extra steps and money to get a black stingray
I'm sickened at the thought of a sparkle finish being trashed in favor of a common black bass, SMH! What a shame!
Completely agree. And I was seriously considering a trade for that particular Stingray a couple of weeks prior to the refinish but I turned it down. I was quite saddened to see it turned black.
