The new Affinity Squier P/J

Finally had a chance to hear my new one at a loud rehearsal last night. Very pleased to say the least. These pickups are very hot and although the J is slightly noisy, it is nothing more than I ever experience with my old Fender Jazz bass. I generally run P/Js with both pickups full on and sometimes use the P solo. The finish on the neck is very smooth, more so than any other Squier or Fender that I've ever played so that was a plus. Overall, me and the band mates were very pleased.

Also, forgot to mention that out of the box, this thing was spot on with setup for my style. Slight relief and action at 3/32" across the board. Great intonation too and all I did was slightly raise the D and G side of the P and J pickup.

Most definitely!! This thing is a bargain at $179 new at most retailers and you can probably spend less (I did). I like the stock pickups sound very much and the only gripe I have is one of the tuners is stiffer than the rest but otherwise they hold tuning very well IMO. As usual, people were shocked at the quality of sound coming out of an instrument that is so affordable (or cheap but not when it comes to quality).

Squier is the brand name and Affinity is the entry level line of Squier basses.

To add a further level of clarification…

The Squier family encompasses these series, with various models within each;
  • Affinity
  • Artist
  • Vintage Modified
  • Classic Vibe
  • Deluxe
  • "Stop Dreaming, Start Playing" Packs (Affinity instrument with gear and practice amp)

There's also Starcaster which is is even cheaper.

Geez, I forgot about those. If there ever was a bass that a Squier Bronco would look down it's nose at, like some unwashed and destitute relative, it's the Starcaster.

Are they even produced in the same factories as the other aforementioned lines? I mean, it doesn't even say "Squier" on the headstock.
