This is Ashdowns new ABM series offering. A 1000 watt class D amp. This is not like the ABM 900. This amp does not sound like what one would exspect coming from a class D amp. It sounds more like a traditional amp.

This amp weighs about 20lbs.


This amp is UK made and the build quality is top notch. This amp is very loud but in a good way and the low end is thunderous to say the least. This amp has head room for days and I'm really digging this amp. It definitely has the famous Ashdown ABM pedigree. The amp seems to be very versatile as has been all of my experiences with the Ashdowm ABM series amps.


The preamp is identical to the ABM 500 but Ashdown has
coupled it with a lightweight 1000 Watt class D power amplifier module. This module has a switch mode power supply so they save the weight of the torroidal transformer that was fitted in the Abm 900, quite a saving/

The power module has a very high damping factor >1000 , this means it controls the speakers to a higher degree than a normal bipolar amplifier and because of this a subsonic filter has had to be fitted to limit the low frequency response at frequencies that the cabinet is unable to reproduce .
This has also been combined with a limiter circuit to further protect the speakers from severe overload and possible damage.

I have ran it with a Ashdown 610, a Ashdown 410 and two Ashdown 410's together and like I said I am really digging this amp. If you want an amp that has head room for days and sounds very solid with a extremely usable eq this amp delivers on so many levels. I'll be using it pretty much every day this coming week and I'm all about the sound of this amp.

Is the subsonic filter applied to any line outs on the unit?

While I've played Ashdown gear before without the results for which I was looking, I'm not going to count them out - mostly because I've seen Ashdown rigs being used by players that I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to on performances they seemed to really dig.

Anyway, the reason I ask about the subsonic filter is that there are some cabs that CAN put out ELF (sub 20 hz) and while I probably won't be bi-amping for super sub bass in the forseeable future, it would be unfortunate for those that do to have their signal filtered and not take this amp as an option.

Are you using your subcontra basses with this rig?

Hello JAUQO III-X,
I also bought this head for about a month and I find it great as both sound like power ... with the abm 500 had volume issues but now I'm fine!
The head has only a small problem when I turn on / turn off you will hear a "bump" on the speakers, it also makes your own? I wrote an email to the ashdown to know if it is normal and there are no problems for the cones and are waiting for a response.

Basically that combination will work perfectly, the basic sound would be even lows, mids and not to harsh highs(unless you really dial the highs in).





And for the record there is not really a tonal difference between the EVO II and III if any. I have A/B'ed these two series several times and they pretty much sound the same.
