the new Stick

Along with most people, I was hoping to see a new Chapman Stick (perhaps one of the newly tuned models, or a Bamboo Laminate build?) based on the subject title but was instead shown an... "altered" Ibanez SR body with Sharpie scribbling of "All Your Base..." 7 years too late, and hooptie version of a Bigsby tremelo as a bridge that will most likely neither tune nor intonate.

I don't feel myself a "hater" (how I despise that word... :scowl: ) but there are so many basic issues wrong with this "bass" that I feel the last key pressed before entering the post was this:

(and upon reading your profile, this was your only bass - you sacrificed your only bass to have fun with sandpaper? Huh...)

actually - the fire suggestion got me thinking - what about darkening the edges with like a propane torch (seriously) and then maybe a light stain on the undarkend portion? maybe a colored clear coat. it is an experiment after all.

Just my 2 pence

should i just go and paint it?
i feel slightly... dissapointed with the responses.
any ideas on colour?
What are you wanting this thing to be? I find it hard to be supportive...this has disaster (or something else completely unintelligible) written all over it.

At this point, you may as well keep experimenting, as it's unlikely to end up as anything you'd be happy with, regardless of what you were intending...

Ibanez actually beat you to this idea by about ten years - they torched parts of the bodies of both the Steve Vai and Joe Satriani signature models and then stained over the wood, creating a pretty cool effect. I'd love to do this in Red Stain for a "Stage Bass" finish concept:

(the differences in the darkness is that the Jem had a satin finish that was easily rubbed down/off, while the JS had a poly clearcoat over its blue finish)

Hey, there are no snobs here!!!:D

Hows that bridge gonna work? Are you gonna cut grooves in it? Clearcoat it to preserve the artwork.

I'm either going to use a trad. bridge, or find something with a little less action. maybe an inch or two shorter ;)

and I think a clear varnish would be killer.

btw, sorry about being 7 years late, i'm only 16. not new to TEH INTERNETZ tho, so no excuses. thanks for knocking some sense into me haha

No reason to apologize. We may be witnessing early works of the next Mike Tobias.:)
