I prefer the same spacing between strings as my 4, 5, and 6. I have all of them in the same 34" scale too... and most wear strings based off .090 E strings (my fretted 5 has the heaviest LaBella flats I could find). The 7 specifically has 118-090-067-049-035-022-015 tuned BEADGBE with the high B & E unwrapped.

I don't play the low B & E strings at the 12 fret often... I like the 7 for chords and reducing hand travel when playing between the nut and 7th frets.

Thanks, I love it more every time I play it... Fred took an idea from my head and made it a perfect tool for my tastes. Yes the design of the Worker Bee body style is balanced nicely. Less neck dive standing than any other bass I've owned.

Nope, a GT-7, maybe it was 16.5, I was using a small ruler and not something more accurate. I definitely noticed the difference.

Gerald Veasley 6 string signature basses have string spacing that even smaller than that: 14 mm at bridge.

it's a bass VI style instrument, but with seven strings ...so a bass VII. Sounds like it'd be kinda sweet because I've been a bit gassy for a bass VI recently.

The Ibanez SR7Vii has very narrow spacing (and a shorter scale length) but it sounds sick. My local GC had one of these rare birds but it eventually got sold; it had great tone. I'm curious to see if the BTB seven string sounds similar; I'd own one if it did.

FWIW, it sounded so good to me I was willing to live with the narrow spacing and short scale length, AND offer them something close to the outrageous price they were asking for it (like $1800!!)

the SR7VII is made in Japan, so even if it wasn't a special limited model, a price tag of $1,800 is kinda normal.

A few years ago my friend acquired a wide-necked Galveston eight string bass (unpaired). I wish I could have bought it from him (sold it on TB for him) as it was actually a nice bass. It needed a better preamp to eliminate some minor hiss/buzz but the pickups didn't sound bad at all.

It had two flaws; the bridge pieces were not individually adjustable for height (minor IMO) but it could only be strung through-body only - eliminating the possibility of using string gauges above .145. For light-action tap-style playing that would be fine, but I would have needed to find a way to put a thick Kalium on there for a good low F#.

If I ever run across another and can pick it up I'll find a solution for that low string; it really was a decent axe for such a low price point.

Hey guys! Just discovered this thread, bought myself a cheap 7-string Harley Benton bass a little while ago. And you know what, it is surprisingly well built and fun to play :D




A question for you experienced ERB-ers: what kind of wall hangers fit such monstrosities? Any particular brand to look out for? I have my other basses hanging neatly on my walls, but this one is relegated to leaning into a corner, for now.
