The Official MARUSZCZYK CLUB!

Agreed. But Mr OB makes it look as though you will definitely receive a bass with neck dive if you do not specifically say you don't want it. And that, in all sincerity, is not true.
That is not what I said! Instead of making that statement you should have asked me further questions instead of jumping to a false conclusion!

I call what you just said total BS!

Dude, I didn’t say every Maruszczyk built neckdives!

When I requested a bass with proper balance, I was told by “Adrian” (I have the email) that he couldn’t guarantee that my bass would have proper balance and not neckdive.

I restated my request multiple times and they built me a bass that has Perfect balance!

I think that many of us received what we consider to be perfectly balanced basses without requesting it, and it is greatly possible that whether or not you requested it, you would have received the same perfectly balanced bass. It is hard for an artisan to guarantee that a custom product will fit a definition/opinion that varies from person to person.

Maruszczyk has also been building a lot of bass less than 8 lbs. Many TB members want extremely lightweight basses, but I don’t. I also requested that they not build me an ultra lightweight bass. My bass weighs about 8.5 lbs. which I am happy with!

The pushback you are getting is because of what you said which was pretty much that you can expect neck dive unless you work with Adrian for something special. That is just not true.

My Jake is about 7.5 pounds and no diving. I didn't order anything particularly special.

My 2 cents on the neck dive issue is sometimes with custom builds, a customer will customize things in a way to attribute to a problem with the aesthetics or balance of an instrument. Not on purpose but sometimes it's overlooked by the customer. At that point it's up to the builder to either intervene and give advice or let the build go on without caring about the consequences.

I have absolutely designed something a builder said hold on a minute. I have also had another where things went forward and it wasn't good and I feel like they took my money.

Luthiers should design basses and guitars that are balanced in some form or there's a flaw in the design itself. I had a D'Agelico Excel bass that sounded amazing but no strap on earth could help the neck dive because as a hollowbody they didn't factor in their insanely large headstock. I was initially smitten with it's tone and then after a couple months realized it was awful to play standing and even sitting at times.

What did you ask for, if you don't mind me asking?
I was interested in different pickup placements (of which I would not know the resulted tone until it was received) and Adrian bluntly said something along the lines of "do you like how it sounds with the standard placement?" which I did and pointed out that I didn't know how different it would sound for better or worse with custom placement. I'm sure he has tried many different placements and uses the placement that he sounded best - so why mess with the builders best? I'd have to think about what other questions/requests he bluntly answered (pickups maybe). I appreciated the blunt answers/recommendations.

The pushback is annoying considering, I made myself perfectly clear that I didn’t mean it’s a “given” that a customer will get a neck diving bass if a person doesn’t speak up!

Some dudes like to argue for the sake of arguing and I am not the one to do that with!

Maruszczyk is now building a lot of ultra lightweight basses, because a lot of customers want a lightweight bass.
I had to change my wood preferences per my conversation with Adrian in hopes of getting a bass in my preferred weight range.

I actually emailed Adrian about what strings he knows of to use for a 32" Elwood L I have coming and this was his response.

"I use standard long scale strings, the one problem is the B string, it is too thick.

I unwind the last winding so that it fits in the tuner, of course only up to the saddle."

Not sure how I feel about that, I'm inquiring about some Galli strings since they sell different lengths but have to buy them direct and they're in Italy. If anyone here watches Andy Irvine he puts them on all of his basses.
Interesting. If he does that, it looks like he does that inconsistently - here are my Elwood 32 5 and my Cazpar 32 5 both with original M string sets - Elwood B appears to have some winding removed (I can see now where the cut may have happened) while the unaltered longscale B on the Cazpar wraps decently around the 3/8 Ultralite tuner shaft.

That's interesting and thanks for taking a pic of that. I was honestly confused when he said saddle because I really couldn't comprehend unwinding all the way to the bridge but was taking into account of possible language translation error.

Not sure how I feel if they're unwinding like that on a new bass that comes with what they say are short scale strings that are also sold as such on their website.

From the replies you received regarding your initial post, you must admit that your statement was at least misleading. You made your point clearer in subsequent posts.

Don't be angry, things like this happen sometimes in written language. I am sure the "problem" would not have been that bad, if we had all spoken to each other face to face.

Let us keep the good spirit and continue to discuss and enjoy Maruszczyk basses together.

Not even close! Did I give a probability percentage? You are reaching!

Unless you are a medium you should not try to speak for someone else.
Then let's let you speak for you. Your words:

"If you don’t specify perfect balance and no neck dive then it’s a great probability that you will receive a bass that neck dives!" (emphasis added)

"Great probability" implies something significantly higher than a 50% chance.

If that's not what you meant to say, you can clarify that you misspoke earlier and used the wrong words, but please don't pretend that everyone who responded to those words didn't understand what those words meant.

For a partial or full custom build definitely specify what is most important to you, since their may be room to maneuver--I've found it especially helpful to add what is less important, and of course to listen to explanations from the builder about what they can and cannot do. Mr_O'B may get a slightly heavier bass, perhaps a slightly thicker body near the butt end. One could ask 'please add some weight to the body to ensure balance with the neck--I can handle up to x.xkg easily'. What is less helpful is to write 'I want a bass that is < 7 lbs, has no neck dive and has the biggest B string ever heard'. We have to make choices. I have basses with some neck dive--I'm fine with a little but not a lot. My headless frog has a little butt dive, but not a lot.
In my Frog build, I asked for a lot of non-standard things -- most of which I got, some of which I didn't. Things I got:
a stainless steel zero fret
a slender neck (1mm less depth at the nut than usual)
back of neck painted matte trans-green
non-standard fret marker placement
extra finger room on the lower bout
knobs with Luminlay numbers on them

Things I didn't get:
custom signature inlay at the 12th fret
black TUSQ nut
thumb rests (didn't want a ramp)

Everything else I got was an option on the configurator. With regards to potential neck dive, I helped myself by asking for a thinner neck and getting the Hipshot ultralight tuners (though I got those more for the 1/2" posts than for the weight savings), but the main thing I did was order a bass that's designed in large part to prevent neck dive from happening. If had I ordered a Mr. Tee or Pheonix, I'd probably be a bit more worried about it. With the Frog, not so much. In fact, your post was the first time I'd ever encountered the concept of "butt dive" -- a testament to the Frog's lack of neck dive if ever there was one.
