Hi all. My hands are getting worn out at 55yrs. Considering a medium scale bass. I love a Precision or a P/J and I'm looking at the Fender Stu Hamm Urge 1. Is there a noticeable difference in the Urge 1 and Urge II besides the scale length. Is the Urge 1 a better bass?

Hey everyone, been a long time since I've been on the forum, just got busy with new job, life craziness, etc.
I started down a fretless journey over the last year, initially playing one of those ibby sr style semihollows with just piezo, which was cool, but not ergonomically great for my lunar nerve. There were not any mediums commercially available at a 'give it a try' price point, I was hesitant to have one of my vintage mediums altered, and my attempt at defretting an sx was fun but ultimately just frustrating.
I eventually got the the point where I felt fretless was going to be part of my ongoing bass life, and got my early 80s aria tsb450 professionally defretted. Had Steve Morrill in Boxboro MA do the deed, highly recommend him and his work incidentally.
Here she is - plays and sounds wonderful.

I am very happy with the bass, very comfortable, very light and also the headphones output is very practical to play at home. The fifth string is very good, no floppy at all with a 0.130 string( even is more tight than my 34" Ibanez 5 strings with 0.120 gauge strings). Although it obviously does not sound like a multi-scale 37, but I wouldn't change it for these reason.

I would like to join the club as well. I just received the new SX Ursa ii medium scale and it is nice! All maple neck and solid Alder body makes for some nice j tones. I also got this bass to hopefully get a p bass body for it as that is more my thing but wanted the neck as it is perfect!
That is a beautiful bass. I was intrigued by the concept of a stratocaster bass myself. I cobbled this together out of a paulownia strat body. Nowhere near the quality of a Marleaux, but it turned into a very fun, lightweight, and playable instrument. It's a great test bed for different EMG pickups as well.

your Bass looks awesome and I guess it sounds great.
To be honest, I bought the Marleaux Votan today from a guy in my hometown.
I fell in love with the bass from the pictures he posted.
My other Bass, a Music Man Reflex 5 HH, is quite heavy 4,8 kg and I was looking for a lighter Bass and easy Playing.
The Votan is just 3,6 kg and my old bones say "thank you".
Here in Germany Shortscale and Mediumscale Basses get more and more popular.
For many Years they have been looked at as a second and not suitable choice for many Bass Players.
I don't have the longest fingers, so that playing Long Scale Basses means a lot of Finger work to me.
The Strings on my new Bass are old and Rusty, so I decided to buy me new ones.
After a little research I found Dunlop Flatwound Strings with good reviews, so I will give them a try.
I will post the result here, if you like.

I'd love to get in on this club if possible. I just snagged a Warwick RockBass corvette basic 32" scale today. My hands were getting too sore playing 34" basses now that I'm getting older, so I thought I'd give the Warwick a go. Man, did I make the right choice! I was able to play longer and faster! I feel abd for my other basses now, because I don't think they're going to get much love going forward.
