Hello to All....I have a 1986 32 inch scale Alembic Persuader. I've had so many 34 inch scale basses but keep coming back to this. It's much more comfortable...so much so that I ordered a 32 inch DP custom bass.

I bought that one! Needed something for slapping. My Epi SS Violin Bass is strung with flats and has a nice jazzy thump to it. Needed a second one for different sounds. So I thought this one would be cheap enough to buy without upsetting the wife too much.
Gotta put a new pickguard on it (to get rid of the pink outline stripe and the little rose!) but it plays pretty good. Needs some fretwork, though. Buzzy up around the 12th. And I may put some new pickups in it. Can't decide what kind, though.
Mine's being hot-rodded now. Pics to come next month hopefully.
A 32" 5-string in the $5-600 range is very appealing! My input:
Body: Streamer or Thumb (Corvette and Fortress have that ridiculously phallic top horn)
Color: Burgundy Red Oil Finish; Almond Sunburst (1st choice); Honey Violin
Neck Pickup close to the neck to prevent over emphasis of treble - allows for fuller, less trebly sound for those who want it
Tuning: I string my current 5 string E-C
String Spacing: We want a shorter scale neck because we have shorter fingers, right? I'd like 14-15 mm spacing over the neck pickup at the body end of the neck. I own an Ibanez SR505 - strings are close at the neck but widen more than I'd like at the bridge.

Thanks EbonAlley for the suggestion. I sent our Warwick participant an e-mail. I'd really like to see them come through on this, especially if the street price is $600 or below.
I just had my SX 32" setup. It plays good now. I was getting a lot of buzz past the 11th fret so I took it in. It plays right now.
Sidetrack (not hijack): But I ticked off the music store owner (not the tech) when I picked up the guitar. I felt the action was too high, and pointed out that the bridge was raised up really high. I wanted to know what all the tech did, but the guy didn't know. He told me the tech spent 3 hours on my guitar because it was defective from the factory, because it had a 32" scale. I told him it was a medium scale guitar, and was supposed to be 32". Shortscale is 30", Medium is 32", Full is 34". "Oh, well, I'm not gonna argue with you about that." I complained about the action, and I asked what the tech did, because if he just raised the action, I could have done that. He got really mad and told me what a pos my guitar was, bla-bla-bla... I was a bit surprised at his reaction (especially from a guy who didn't even know what a medium scale bass was, and whose store is mostly stuff like Johnson and Squier); I just wanted some communication and reassurance for my $$. The tech didn't leave any notes, doesn't work regular hours (to catch him in person), they didn't ask me any questions before the setup, and the action seemed high when I picked it up.
All that to say, I was wrong about the action. When I got it home, and played with it for awhile, it played really well, except they did do something to screw up the tonepot. Gonna have to get it replaced. But I'll probably have to do it myself, I suppose. Since I ticked off the store owner...
So now I've got about $200 tied up in this SX. $140 for the bass and shipping. $40 labor and $20 gas travelling for the setup. Need to get a tonepot, though. And I'll probably change out the pickups at some point...

For $60 you could have gotten the tools and materials and done it yourself. It's not that hard to do. That's what I did.
Yep. I strongly recommend any bass player, even those who have never twisted a screwdriver, to learn how to set up their own bass. There is a sticky in the REPAIR forum for setups, and the Internet is a valuable tool (full of tools) and anything can be learned with visual aids.

Just got a new Squier Telecaster bass - 32inch model. Neck is wider than my '85 Squier Japan 32 inch P Bass, but very comfortable. I have two of these and will be flipping one soon, now that I have the Tele. I already have a number (63) so I don't need another - just alerting everyone to the new model.

Custom tort pickguards being $50 and up I decided to make my own. The bonus being for $16 there was enough material to make one for my short scale Rondo Jazz as well:

The electronics were the worst I have ever seen, with intermittent volume increases and cutting off. Since I was replacing all the wiring, I decided to replace the pickups with some Squier Classic Vibe pickups. Much better. Still need to do something about that headstock though.

Nice work! I'll be posting mine within a week. The tort actually matches the headstock pretty nice.
Wow Ed! I just got back on the thread (been working day job for a while) and OH MY look at that bass. You have a beauty there. Makes my little 84 MIJ P seem small. However I am still in love with it. It is my goto if I'm gonna gig. I still what to get a medium Jazz but all of the ones on evilbay are over $1000 so it will be a while.
Anyone here know how to get one for less or has one that they want to sell I am interested.
