Thanks for your interest. These have "standard tapping tuning" which is, from the center strings, going up by 4ths on the melody (guitar) side, and going up by 5ths (from the center) on the bass side. My instrument (from the top (12th) to the bottom (1st) string is BEADGC-C#F#BEAD.
Some people go all 5ths too, you can tune these whichever way you want
The melody side is very easy to adapt to, as follows the same pattern. On the bass side, I have a "Keep it simple" trick for my brain.... if you go 5ths from one string to the next, you also go 4ths on the opposite direction, so reading the fretboard from the top, you always go 4ths. Scales look the same anywhere in the instrument.

New (to me) Hondo 830 Deluxe. I was told originally that it is a '72, but that has been questioned by some people, so I'm not too sure. All I know is it is a great player and looks amazing.

You are right the more I look at it the wood might be Macassar or Indian rosewood.
The bass weighs about 9.2 lbs, if that is any help with body wood identification.
All that I know is that the grain looks amazing.

Also, the sides are really odd looking, the grain is almost blotchy.

This "name" has been given to the bass due to the appearance of what looks like two sets of "fingers" within the quilting on either side of the neck pup.
