Here are a couple of other recent scores that I am currently having a lot of fun with.

I received the red USA Custom ATK the other day, and the koa topped ATK750 is a recent production, but no longer offered, limited edition. My guess is the non-koa ATK750's sound/play just like it, though.

I'm still comparing and contrasting the two, and it's too early to post any kind of 'final thoughts', but I will say that I am quite fond of both. The neck on the USA Custom is really nice, and thinner (front to back) than the koa bass. That neck pickup really offers a lot more tonal variations, though the USA Custom is plenty versatile, on its own.

Here is a diagram showing how the 5-way selector works:

Red indicates the coil in use
Flesh indicates hum canceling

More to come regarding these two, for sure. :D

madbassist666,

I bought that bass to have something to play with . . . like lots of mods . . . Hipshot Ultralite tuners and A Style bridge, some really hot pickups, new pots and such, but dang, I put a set of DR Black Beauties on on it, and it immediately had the sound I needed to have.

I have my Jazz for the songs that need low lows, but this P Bass Special has a great mid sound . . . nice piano-like sounds with the DRs . . . first time that I've used DRs and I like 'em.

I don't need any mods . . . think I'll leave it like it is!

Oh, one final note . . . the black needs constant attention . . .
