When I get my Ray34 back from the luthier I'll post a pic of it on here. It's one of them der silverburst ones.

PS: I don't know why anybody would ever want to buy a bass that didn't have a matching headstock.

For the most part I tend to agree with you. However, with a maple neck and prefer the headstock to remain maple. Not sure why.

Got it yesterday! This was a bass bought new buy a collector, and just stored. There are ZERO signs of it being played. Case candy still unopened. Even smells new! I called Ernie Ball and when I told them what I had, before I asked, they said that this bass is very rare...only a few ordered like this. Plays and sounds awesome!

Your fret? board looks beautiful. Do you still call it a fretboard on a fretless? Prehaps a fretlessboard or a board? Anywho, what kind of wood is that? The grain looks so nice.

Maybe 'fingerboard' is the correct term.

The fingerboard is Diamondwood, similar to Zon's. A birch ply fingerboard that's impregnated with resin and heat cured. Very, very hard, to withstand the use of round round strings. Roscoe won't even offer these fingerboards fretted due to the wear on the fret saws ('tho Zon does, or did).

The grain is pretty much 'what you get, is what you get'.

My Ken Lawrence Associate 5. Ken added a matching piece of pau ferro left over from the fingerboard to the headstock.
And of, course my Nordy VJ5 with, match candy apple red headstock.

Well what you got is a beautiful fingerboard (and knowing that you cured my brainfart about that word ). If I ever go fretless I may just look into that stuff.

Headstock waiting for clear coating so not ready for tuners or nut yet, but this is my homemade Fender parts 71 bass.

Here's an update : four coats of black and two coats of clear (so far). I have to put it back together because I need it this weekend but a new logo and a couple more coats of clear will have her finished up. Finally!
