Agreed. The focus seems to be on his knee. Focusing on his guitar/fingers could have also made for a cool shot.
What version of Photoshop are you using?
anyone have tips for turning color photographs into b&w with photoshop? This one was just me messing with the color adjustment within the black and white setting and then a little warming filter.

Okay, then you're good to go. I've tried several methods of B&W conversion over the years (including the Channel Mixer, Desaturate, LAB and Photoshop's own B&W tool) and the method that I use on 80%-90% of my conversions these days is Gradient Map. Here's a quick and dirty tutorial on how I use GMs. (The blue text is mine.)

I start with values of 0, 40, 100 and go from there. Also, I create the GM as a separate adjustment layer so that I can go back and change my settings at any time.
If you want to add some color, create a Hue/Saturation layer, select "Colorize" set Hue at 28 and Saturation at 10. I prefer that over the built-in Photoshop sepia filter.
Self portrait. Since I got my radio trigger set in I wanted to mess around with some off camera flash. I've got another flash on the way along with umbrellas and stands so I'm kind of posting this for posterity to compare how much better I can make it with a second flash + modifiers.
The entire light source was one flash. I held the flash behind my back and pointed it at the white door behind me with the goal of totally blowing out the details in the door to kind of get that white seamless look. I relied on bounce to wrap around my head and face + ambient light in the room to get some light on the front. Of course there are shadows. A reflector below my face might have been enough to fill that in. Looking forward to lots more off-camera flash stuff.

Ouch! That's a sweet deal - I not long ago got a sizeable order from them. Another 800 would be sweet to have laying around.
First photography I've ever attempted. School said they needed a photo of a vertebrae for festival so I went out and took one. For some reason this looks worse than the actual paper version.
Had a workshop yesterday with a pro press photographer yesterday. Overal he liked 2/3rds of what I had made. 1/3rd was crap according to him 
What he told me:
Context is extremely important, even when you single out people on a demonstration, show them being part of a crowd.
Big blurry heads in the foreground are a nono.
People are more interesting than skies
Don't use the people to frame other people 3 technique 3 times in a row in one series
But, in the end he put one of my streetshots on his wallpaper, so it's all good I guess

Shot my first concert yesterday night ! Took over 200 shots so I need to pick through them and do the whole post-processing thing but I've already got a few nice shots. The purple light didn't do me any favors though, lol.

A magazine expressed interest in some of my pictures and want more samples, should I watermark them before I send them? How big should it be if they are sampel images? Should I give them full quality images? I have no idea how to handle this, lol.
