that's a nice streamer man! i have a few pickup questions for all my fellow warwick nuts on here. have any of you heard the differences between a set of barts and the standard mecs in a streamer stage 1 5 string. i've been trying to find out what the differences are between the two. thanks

Has anyone noticed any quality drop offs with Warwick after the late 90's. I personally play my bass exclusively and haven't tried any newer ones.

I see a lot of criticism on e-bay concerning this (not including Rock Bass). Just wondering what's up with that and if anyone knows if there is a difference in value concerning this.

Nice thumb! I have a 97 streamer, a 99 corvette and a 2001 ss2 and I definitely think the 97 and 99 with the all Wenge necks are better suited to me. Something about the older ones just feels better to me. I think I just don't like ovangkol as much. Also I think they produced a lot less instruments in the early 90's so perhaps their attention to detail was slightly better. I played a new Katana at the store a few weeks ago and it rocked even though it had ancient strings and super high action. I want to get a Streamer LX from the custom shop some day and I know they still offer Wenge as an option for neck wood.

While a lot of people prefer the older wenge necks and handcrafting, the new CNC and fret installation machines mean better consistency and accuracy than a human can do, and the rest is still done by hand. New innovations and changes are evolutionary and for the better, not the worse. For example, the JAN III is a marked improvement over the JAN II and is said to be sonically better than the JAN I...

I think the preference for the older models is more of a psychological thing. I had an 89 Thumb NT and it was nice. I personally don't think it played or sounded any better than my 03 NT 5 I have currently. In fact, the newer ones feel more solid in my hands, and the quality certainly hasn't gone down.
"handmade" is the big buzzword with the old ones it seems.
I've never regretted selling the old model, but that's just me.

I agree it's a physc validation thing, or what some schmoe on ebay will say to make his auction more appealing, I'm just hoping that Warwick isn't jumping on trends, and trying to buy in too much. The Rock Basses are great but when a company start trying to fill a niche left for Squire and ilck, it seems to loose it uniqueness factor.

I've seen (never played) the new Katanas and Vampyres I have to admit they are ugly imo. I'm sure they play well, but there is nothing graceful about them. They just seem to be there to fit into a trend. Maybe I'm wrong though.
