I have three younger brothers. All of us learned to play in our early teens, but we've never played a note together. I don't know why.

I did my dissertation on a related topic years ago as part of my undergraduate degree in psychology – part of a study on what makes people sociable (or not) – part of it was looking at birth order and if it has any impact on how one views one’s sociability. Eldest guys (and girls) seemed not to view themselves as sociable than anywhere down the birth line (not a significant difference, but a slight correlation existed). There was a few more interesting figures that arose, but it’d probably bore half the users here to tears.

Incidentally, I’m third of twelve (yes, a real Irish family) – nine guys and three girls!

I'm the oldest of 5, three brothers and a sister. I think birth order has a lot to do with your personality. My wife is also the oldest of 5, with three brothers and a sister.
