The ONE bass

Sorry if this has been done before.


How many of you have your ONE bass, and you've decided you're not really interested in any other brand of model?

Mine is my MIM Fender Jazz. I want to play it until it falls apart, and I'd replace it with another Jazz. If I add another bass, I'd want to add a Jazz. I put EMG JX's in my bass yesterday, strung it up with D'Addario Chromes, and I intonated it today. My mistakes, my oopses, and unplanned trips to Radio Shack and Home Depot are hidden beneath the pickguard and control plate. The bass now has some things uniquely mine.

Anyone else feel similarly about their bass? Am I perhaps unique in this regard?

My ATK305 to be honest I can't really afford to get the Schecter Diamond P Custom I really want. However even if I did I'd still only gig with my ATK.

I can get any sound a punk band or metal band could need. Want a P bass tone? Got it! A little more treble? I can copy a jazz too. What need more bass mr. PA man? I got a preamp on board. Oh and don't forget my ATK eats your ray for breakfast.

My #1 changes day to day.
Why limit yourself. It's a bass not your wife.
There are so many great basses that play and sound differently.

Also, some of the gigs I do can be "less than interesting" musically(to me) so variety in basses can spice things up a bit.

My "new" T40 has become the one. The tone is perfect, it plays just right, and it's balanced perfectly. the weight doesn't even bother me anymore.

I’m with you and the OP… I have a couple of others, but my ATK305 and MIM Jazz V are my favorites.

I always wanted a Precision V, that might take the place of the Jazz, but they don’t make a MIM or Squier version, and I don’t want to spend that much coin for a bar bass.

If I had to choose, I just don’t know what I’d do… fortunately I don’t.

G&L L2000's do it all... zero need for anything else. To each their own, but the different basses for different genres thing baffles me unless you are talking radical drop tunings or need a fretless. Generally, I view those kind of comments as self-GAS justification, and only say so b/c I have been there in the past No more 30 some basses for me. Just the G&L and my old customized Ric as a backup. I could probably part with the Ric even.

I had a Lakland Bob Glaub Precision 4 that I told the band members they would have to pry it out of my cold dead hands before I gave it up - one week later it was destroyed in a fire - bugger

Different genres to play, different sounds needed, mostly different "feel" for each bass that push you to play in a different way.
Then your personal taste, that changes in time.
I have 7, now, and wish for tow or three more.
I am faithful to my woman, don't force me to be faithful to my basses too! - (although there is a Number One, which is the less played these times...)
