I don't think you're going to find the Thunderbolt as a particularly "aggressive" instrument - it can get growly, yes, and the Thunderguts switch combined with new roundwounds has a LOT going on in the low mids - but it's in many ways a sort of modernized Jazz bass.

I've got both a Modulus Q5 and a Thunderbass (the neck-thru version of the Thunderbolt). In my opinion, the Modulus is more aggressive than the Pedulla. The Pedulla is more "polite" or traditional sounding. If you do t think that the Modulus is aggressive enough I don't think a Pedulla is what you are looking for. But I would totally recommend that you play one and decide for yourself!

After a few months of GASing super hard for a 5-string Rapture, I finally wound up with this bad boy:

I'm glad I held out for the wider 19mm spacing and I'm glad I wound up with a P/J - that P pickup is really something else!
I tried a set of TI flats last week and wasn't quite feeling it. D'Addario NYXL nickel roundwounds are working a lot better for this axe.
Rehearsal trials are going well - the low B really checks out. I think this one will be a keeper.
The recessed strap locks were put in by the previous owner, BTW. (They're okay - I would have probably just swapped in regular strap buttons.)

Neck profile is basically a flat V. I can't remember the radius off the top of my head but the Pedulla site has a lot of spec information on the instruments.

Question for the Pedulla experts. I am looking for string recommendations. My bass is a 4-string Series II with bolt on neck, Bartolini P/J pickups, and passive electronics (one of the few passive Pedulla basses, if I've got my trivia right). I've recently restrung it BEAD in search of the legendary "Pedulla 34-inch low B of doom." For many years, I've been very happy with this bass strung EADG with Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats. But for whatever reason, the TI low B just doesn't sound great to me. Maybe it's the low tension? I've given the bass a thorough setup, and set the witness points, but the B-string tone just doesn't grab me. Time for a change.

What's a good string set for tight-sounding low B on a PJ-pickup Pedulla? I'm not necessarily looking for gut-rumbling low-bass; I prefer more of an articulate mid-range growl that blends well with the other strings. My slight preference is flatwounds, but I'm also willing to consider rounds, grounds, tapes, etc.. Bonus points for advice from actual Series II owners (I know there are a few of you out there). ;)

Try DR Lo-Riders. Hex core makes them really stiff.

Funny, I got a TI Flatwound 5-string set that's been on a Yamaha neck-through fretless for 15 years and I have no complaints, there. But like you I tried a set on the fretted bass and the low B was unsatisfactory. (Not the worst I've encountered, but still...)
I'm having pretty good luck with the D'Addario NYXL roundwounds. (For the extra money they seem to be nice & stable - broken in right out of the box - with a nice "thump" to them.) I wish I had shopped a little bit more carefully and gotten a set with a taper core low B. I may still buy a single and try swapping that in but the need is not urgent as I am now pretty content with my lower register response. (And my other fretted low B is a 37" Dingwall.)
I'm sure there numerous are other good solutions - taper core seems to factor when you need all the help you can get (even the Dingwall sets come that way). HTH!

in my Pentabuzz there are 3 little "attenuators". anybody know what they are for? I have the soapbox pickups and of course the Bartolini preamp. I would actually like to bring down the volume of the B & E string and up the others. I have already adjusted the angle of the pickups, but it's not as good as I would like.

The one by itself is overall volume output. It's if you want a hotter or quieter signal coming out of the jack. The other 2 are the cut/boost adjustable frequencies of the midrange toggle switch. Neither of these will adjust the overall volume of individual strings. Is it something you want to do as per your taste or are the B and E strings clearly louder than the rest?

I prefer Rotosound Billy Sheehans on my series ii 4 string and DR Marcus Millers (maybe called Fat Beams now?) on my series ii 5 string. Fat Beams sound articulate with nice low mid definition and the B is easy to hear. Probably helps that they were designed / tailored to suit bolt-on basses. Good luck on your search!

Thank you all for the string suggestions! Last weekend, I had a session, and played mostly 4 string EADG. But we needed low C for one song. So, I found a pack of D'Addario roundwounds (medium-light gauge) in my string box, and gave them a try. Sounded great! Helped that the studio had a really nice vintage 1176 compressor. I feel like I'm on the right track, so I'm going to order a few different brands of roundwounds, in search of that elusive 34" B of Doom. ;)

I would like some advice on what to do about my Rapture J2-5.
I've had it since the late 90s and there has always been a volume problem with it. Since I don't use it live very often, it hasn't been something I've put a lot of time into figuring out. Even with the EQ all the way up, it is significantly more quiet than all of my other basses; passive and active. The EQ works, and the original Barts work, it is just quiet.
The blend pot is starting to go now, so I'm thinking about having it worked on, and figured I'd kill two birds with one stone. What I don't want to do is spend a bunch of money on parts and labor just to have it not be what I needed.
Is there a way to figure out if the pickups and the preamp are doing what they are supposed to, without replacing them?
If I did want to swap out the parts and have the blend pot replaced, is there any rational reason why I should have Pedulla do it, or should I just have my local guy do it?

Does your Bart preamp have an internal gain trim pot? Might be worth a look.
