Hey guys.. unfortunately have to sell a couple of my Peds...Am I allowed to post here, or do I have to post ad in classified and cross reference... Intent is giving the "Family" (TB & FB Ped.Fan clubs) the first shot at these, before posting elsewhere. 96 MVP with Pedulla/Bartolini Harness (stacked bass/treble) and 84 Interceptor Buzz...Thanks!!!

I had an '84 Inteceptor, and I have an '84 EMS, and for the love of God I don't know what the difference is because they look identical. Only difference is that the EMS has a solid plastic truss rod cover. I know Mike started offering multiple electronics in the same knob and switch configuration, so maybe that's it?! I've never been able to suss out what the differences were, and the earliest catalog I have('85-86) doesn't show either of them, though they were apparently made through at least '86. Anyone?

I’m a poor excuse for a Pedulla club member cause all I’ve ever known about are the MVP, BUZZ, Raptor, Thunder (neck thru and bolt on).

I go WAY back with 'em. Was a huge Pat Metheny Group fan back in the day and one day I saw Mark Egan with this WEIRD looking bass. I was in college in Philly in the early '80's and one day I walked by 8th Street Music and BAM!!, there was one. Way out of a college student's budget, but I was a fan at first play (it was an EMS with two Jazz pickups). I got a Buzz in '86 when I got an inheritance after my godfather died, and the MVP in '87 when I was lucky enough to visit Mike's shop in MA right after graduating when my girlfriend was in Boston on a gig, and he told me his sales sample just came off the road and was hanging in a local shop. Didn't buy another for 15 years.

I'm starting to think that the EMS and Interceptor are the same and Mike just changed the name since the EMS harkened back to all the older ones with wooden knobs and pickup surrounds. But I have no idea. Someone on here needs to have that in their head!!

Found a way to hold onto this one.. Will take a little work but well worth it... Realized selling this would have been regretable... Next step is getting the fretboard recoated and bass sanded/oiled/sealed when I complete move back to New York...

Just curious, is the fretboard on the Interceptor epoxy or did Mike swap to polyester by '84? From all I can find out there it seems he went to polyester about the same time he started using flame maple and shooting hi-gloss transparent colors, which from what I can tell was about '85. Every pre-86 Pedulla I've had was fretted so I have no idea, but I'm thinking he probably changed finish types across the board all at once.

For the Pedulla heads here, I found the paperwork that came with my '86 Buzz and figured I'd scan it and share it with you all. It's got the control configurations (yes, plural) available at the time (all with the same layout so you don't know what you have without plugging it in), and reviews from International Musician and Recording World and Guitar Player magazines. Enjoy!!

His earlier coatings were pure epoxy (pre 0400 serial number basses), then he switched to a proprietary epoxy/poly blend before finally switching 1986 over to what is found... saw your EMS/Buzz comments from a week+ ago... couple errors in your statements, espicially the EMS designation (which in 1983, EMS basses had rosewood fretboards and MVP/Buzz basses had ebony... hence the designation)... I should know, purchased my EMS from his East Seymour store in person; think I still have the catalog with the box/spreadsheet description... EMS designation had nothing to do with pickups/electronics (Bartolini/Dimarzio)... The EMS stamp on his first 1983 Interceptors were, in Mike's own words "a misnomer" and "Place saver" designation... There are actually about 5 or 6 Interceptors with the MVP serial number... The whole idea behind the Interceptor was to replicate (after popular demand) the walnut MVP he had advertised on front cover of 81/82 brochures.... he went with the walnut/maple mix in 83, after seeing the market demand for Spector NS-2/Tobias basses (same walnut/Maple config)....

Thanks for the clarity. I first heard of Pedullas in '84 but I didn't see one in person until late '85, so everything prior to the MVP/Buzz only world has been me piecing together history as best I can in the internet days and relying on memories of stories read. Heck, when I made that list I forgot they made the Nuance for a while.

The East Seymour store you mention, was that in Mass? For the life of me I can't remember the store where I bought his blue '86 MVP road sample in June of '87 when it came off the road.

Do you remember the name of the store that he started building instruments for? IIRC they had the store name on the headstock as well.
