The price of strings!!!!!

Just wondering if everyone else here finds the price of a pack of strings are getting a little out of hand? In canada for Ernie Ball Regular slinky it's 30 dollars. While that's still relatively cheap, for 3 basses it's $120. Is there somewhere else than Amazon to get cheap strings?

This is why I haven't bought any strings locally here in Winnipeg for the last 10 yrs.

I was just talking to someone the other day about how bass strings seem to be one of the only commodities that have NOT gone up over the years with inflation! When I was in high school 30 years ago they were just under $20. Now… They are a bit over $20! There’s a lot of variability between brands, and I know the prices have gone up a little bit since then, but certainly not at the same rate as everything else. Not sure why, but I found that interesting.

The price of Chromes jumped almost $10 just a few months back. They’re just over $60 a set at long and McQuade now.

I’ve made the same observation, and it seems to apply to electric bass strings more than double bass strings.

A set of high quality cello strings, a mix of TI Spirocore and Larsen mediums, is over $300. I just bit the bullet and restrung my trusty wood cello. I am really happy to pay whatever the current price is for a set of strings for my Fender Jazz, lol. It’s all relative

Elixer user here, almost exclusively for a couple of decades. I should be sponsored by now! I haven't noticed too much of change, but then again with two years of lock down and not playing larger show since then, I haven't needed to change strings. I do remember buying a couple cases of D'Addarion Reds at <$10 per set when I playing five to seven nights a week and changing them weekly.

When I order my strings from a US-based online dealer, I don't pay any taxes or duties to the Canadian government as long as I order a couple of sets at a time.

I've dealt with Jason at Fret Nation (based in Calif.) for the last 10 yrs, and he's always been good to deal with as he's willing to be flexible with pricing to offset the cost of international shipping. Even with the current crazy exchange rate, I still save money.
