Hawaii has 5 active volcanos and and a large number of inactive ones depending on how you count them. NM had a significant amount of volcanic activity in the past and if you have a trained eye, its amazing to see how many dot the landscape.Invalid Link Removed
I just meant that you can see lava flows in progress on Hawaii.

I from got a call today from the people that handle the insurance for my Quad...
Operator: I'm calling to inform you that your quad is uninsured as you haven't renewed your policy...
I told them we had not received a renewal quote.....
Operator: We emailed you....
Me: What email address did you send it to?....
Operator: [email protected]....
Me: But that is not an email address!.....
Operator: Yes it is......
Me: No it's not, it is saying you have no email address for me.......
Operator: No that is a proper email address and that is what we have for you........
Speechless!

I am leaving for my 5th trip to Big Bend this year Friday along with my wife (AKA "The Smart One") - she is the Geologist wanna-be. Been the Southwest US for years .
I wish I knew more about Geology. I am currently reading "The Geology of Northern New Mexico's Parks, Monuments, and Public Lands" and "Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau" , plus a Malpais field guide.

The lava fields at Malpais and Corrizoz are awesome. They look like they just stopped flowing. You can scramble over them and explore the collapsed lava tubes and craters. Bring gloves and thick pants cuz that rock is sharp.
I love the landscape in the SW. I also love the weather. I don't love how far away it is from my family.
If everything goes according to plan, I'll be a geologist in less than a year. That reminds me ... I am way behind on my homework.
It still surprises me that the Imperial System utilizes the same units for time as the Metric System.
