Double Bass The right amp - GB Shuttle Max or EA Doubler for doubling?

I've been thinking about getting one of the new lightweight amp heads as my arm is getting stretched out from schlepping my Ashdown ABM-500 around. I was wondering if anybody had an opinion on the Genz-Benz Shuttle Max vs. the EA Doubler?

I like the sound of the Shuttle on the slab, but haven't heard one on upright. I wish GB had put two inputs for the two channels on the Max. I haven't heard the Doubler first-hand, but I love Mike Arnopol's recorded sound.

Situations: Playing jazz in a quartet and klezmer in a sextet. More time spent on upright than the slab, but looking for a great sound on both (the holy grail!). Upright: 3/4 1930s Juzek , Spriocores, with Underwood and a Fishman preamp (which I probably wouldn't need with the Doubler). EBG: Roscoe SKB-3005 and a '69 Fender Jazz. Cabinet(s): For smaller gigs an Epifani UL110, for larger gigs (haven't had one in a long time) add a Peavey 1x15.

Advice?

Lots of choices theese days, but I think you have zeroed in on two of the best.

I've played through a Shuttle 3.0 combo with the 10" speaker and I thought it sounded great, but it's a single channel amp like all the Gentz Benz amps. Mike loves the Doubler and he helped design it. If youre going to play upright most of the time it's definitely got the features that you need in the "magic controls category" ( Variable Phase, Variable Lo Cut, 48v Phantom, ect.) I'm seriously considering this amp,. As to Mikes, recorded sound, well, you'd have to ask him personally, but I seriously doubt that he recorded through the Doubler.

Depends on wheather you ever have the need to Double on both instruments on the gigs you play or you wan't to use a mic. The Doubler's two preamp channels are voiced with different EQ to facilitate using DB and EB.
