THE SHORT SCALE BASS THREAD!

I've got a Nordstrand custom built 30" scale single cut six. With neck through construction, modern electronics and quality craftsmanship it sounds (and looks) awesome! It came with S.I.T. custom strings and the low B is only a .130 but sounds great. I might try a .135 eventually.
A .145 is too muddy up the neck as there isn't enough "bite" from the fret with that thick a string.
To hear a chord melody blues (played by Nordtrand shop guy, Stew)search for a sound clip via Nordstrand short scale 30" six in the archives. Richard Bona liked the way it sounded. Unfortunately he didn't get to play it for me as the band was catching a plane :-( He comes through Seattle almost every year so he said he'd like to, next time.

I got the EVO back from 12th Fret (guitar shop here in Portland) yesteday. Got a fret dressing done, setup, and they were supposed to look at the pots, but I guess the cleaner had done its job, cause they said they sounded fine, and they did... Action is really low now... lower than I am used to after playing the viola bass... I may raise it later, but I will give it some time to see if I get used to it...

It really sounds good, and is really has the contrast I was looking for ... a more "rock n roll-y" sound, for lack of a better term... It seems to get a little more mileage outta my Multi-effects pedal (Which is basically a toy to me) than the Viola...

I took it to my lesson last week. My teacher liked the sound ... thought it was a swell deal for the price I paid too.

My two basses ain't the fanciest, nor the best, I am sure... But I sure like em. I think they will definitely last me a while.. No danger of my skill outgrowing them any time soon...

hey ive only posted a couple of times in tb so far. but i really enjoy these forums.

im not a big guy but my main basses at the moment are a warwick steamer jazzman and a jazz bass.... i would love a short scale that could sound just as ballsy. is this at all possible? i play with quite an aggressive fingerstyle tone and love low mids.. if i found a short scale that sounded great it would make my year!

I have an Epi Allen Woody Rumblekat 30" (The only bass I've ever owned that didnt need any mods of any kind.) which I have yet to take any pics of but here is my baby bass, all 25"s of her.

This bass actually has an excellent P bass sound. Insanely cheap to buy even if some hot rodding is required.

I run old dull roundwound Warwick Yellow strings on it 105,85,65,45
Gives it a classic P bass tone through Ampeg gear.
