This is Littlefoot when we adopted (rescued) him from Petco. He was in rough shape and has Metabolic Bone Disorder.
Littlefoot was improperly cared for and living in the same enclosure as Brutus (pictured below). Brutus is a big male and is doing well considering (You should avoid buying pets from Petco unless you are really educated and have done lots of research on the pet you are interested in.)
They have since been separated which is a proper care requirement.
Here is Littlefoot more recently and in a lot better condition. Someone had bought them and returned them to Petco when they realized that they were more responsibility than they were willing to handle. I'm assuming it was some little kid who wanted it and the parents saw a cheap pet. They eat bugs....what soccer mom wants to play with bugs?
Slither was also improperly cared for before we rescued her. She's my favorite.
She has Metabolic Bone Disorder as well. You can see it in her legs.
Herps that aren't supplemented enough calcium into their diet or the proper vitamins to absorb calcium (vitamin D-3) develop this disorder and the resulting bone formations are spongie. Therefore the curved legs. MBD can be stopped but once they are malformed they stay that way. It can also effect the jaws making difficult or impossible for them to eat. It can effect frogs, beardies and as far as I know most other herps as well.
Almost Forgot Leona. She's our geriatric Leopard Gecko at 10 years old, she's been around for a while. She lays infertile eggs. She may have been a breeder at one time. She is still kickin it though.
Onto Fressie the Whites Tree Frog. He is pretty cool.
