The "sit-in" from hell

Every band I worked with had a “no sit ins” rule. But most of them were originals groups so the issue seldom came up. However there was one time when a belligerent drunk began demanding we “play some blues” so he could sit in with us.

Sit in with keys or lead guitar makes much more sense to me than sitting in on bass. Let them take a solo, thank them kindly and go back to the set. Jazz, blues is also much more workable than a classic rock cover gig too - there's literally no reason to do any kind of sit in other than 'look at me' and that makes no sense with rock covers. :D

It's only happened a few times in my 30 odd years in bands
mainly people who 'think' they can sing.... usually a quantity of alcohol has been consumed and the singing is terrible. One guy was so bad we actually turned the mic down to 0 but he just kept on going and wanted to take over the singing.... took ages to get him to let go of the mic

The last one was about 12 years ago, we were doing a wedding and this guy comes up and asks if his nephew could have a play... said his nephew could play anything so guitarist handed him his les paul copy.
The Nephew must have been about 14-15? and just started playing some Stevie Ray Vaughn, so me and Drummer just joined in and the nephew sang and played lead guitar and he was pretty amazing... just did the 1 song and that was it
