The slimmest jazz necks

I think this is a good route to go. Have your neck reshaped a bit to your liking. Or, have a neck built to your specs. Dan Ransom in San Francisco does great work. There are guys here at talkbass that do some beautiful work. Take a look at some treads in the luthiers corner, maybe some one here can build/modify a neck for you. If it were me, and I owned a bass I loved but didn't like the neck profile, I would reshape, or build one. I feel that is an easier way to go as opposed to cycling though basses to find a neck.

Dan does great work. I worked with him for years (I worked in Gary Brawer's shop which shared space with him). Very talented guy.

Why not just stick with the MIM you already have and like? I think you'll find the difference minimal at best...

I don't think you're going to get it in maple because historically, Jazz maple boards started when necks were at their thickest.
The slimmest necks are the 60-65 ones. The early 80's reissues get pretty close to there too, but then progressively got thicker as the years went by.
I had an early 2000's MIM 60's reissue and it had that same slim neck that my early 80's US reissue had.

Edit, the MIJ Geddy Lee is thin front to back, but because they were copying his shaved neck. I don't know if the other GL models are the same or not.

I have 65 or 66 MIJ Reissue. Yes thinnest Jazz neck I've ever played. Very comfortable and very well made...

They are nice guitars but I love my jazz bass - I’d just like an American one with nice neck like the Nex

American necks are thicker from front to back. American Special Series had thinner necks, but they're discontinued.

If you need a thin neck, get the MIJ Geddy, the thinnest I could find (too thin or me). USA Geddy's are thicker. Squier Standard and MIM are also thinner than the USA models.

Allparts necks are thicker IME. Warmoth necks come with different thicknesses, and are made in USA.

Funny you mention the MIM Standard as the slimmest / smallest J neck because I played on a mid 90s MIM J for a while and I’ve yet to come across anything near as tiny / round as that instrument’s neck @ the nut.. crazy stuff. Great feel & SOLID. I’ve always got eyes out for a cheap used one.
