The second TOS pilot, TOS episode: Balance of Terror, and the reboot movies, (at least) borrow from this scene.
They got a few things wrong, no real downs to Galaxy Quest
I'm an overall Star Trek fan with some reservations. Anything with Q in it is a turn-off. Enterprise didn't work well for me when it came out and having just finished watching the whole lot again I haven't changed my opinion. TNG was my favourite followed by Voyager. I'm currently working my way through DS9. I think I may have moved on a bit. The characters and writing just seem a bit flaky. Maybe they'll develop more throughout the entire series.

Each series has its good and bad. I always took them as individuals. i.e. Next Gen was not going to be TOS, nor was DS9, Voyager and so forth. I enjoyed them all.

Having recently watched DS9 in its entirety, it’s my current favorite. I’m working my way through Voyager now. I’ve tried Enterprise a couple times and just can’t warm up to it.
Agreed on anything with Q: those are the worst episodes for me. I can’t stand them.

I waited a lifetime for TNG after seeing TOS as a kid in re-runs.
Big expectations....and Huge disappointment when it came out.
But! Once the Borg appeared it was game over...Brilliant!!!
Then I learned to enjoy the whole series....but never liked the new ship...Didn't look real to me like the original and movie ships

To me, TNG doesn't stand up near as well to repeat viewings as TOS. I enjoy repeat viewing of Enterprise and DS9 more than TNG.
I totally agree with this. Even Voyager stands up to repeat viewings better than TNG, IMHO.
Watched the only stinker for TOS season one last night. The Alternative Factor is on par with some of the worst of season 3 IMHO.
The part of that episode that bothers me the most is how Lazarus's beard keeps getting thicker and thinner.
