Awhile ago I found an article on here about Musicman-styled basses made that were much cheaper than the real deal. I think they were called SUB stingrays. Does anyone have any information on these?

If You're talking about the discontinued SUB models that were made in the US. Yes, totally the best bargain that You'll ever find on a US made Stingray.
However, if You are inquiring about the imported ones that are soon to be released, I cant say much about'em as I haven't ever had one in My paws.

Yeah, its the imports I was wondering about. I was trying to find a release date for them. Any word on the day?

I saw a small review in BP today about these basses and they stated that they will go for $280.00 and they pretty much had nothing bad to say about them for the price....
For the price...however they did say the preamp was not very good.
Once again they chose a fantastic naming structure that doesn't confuse anyone at all.

its odd that they would identify the pre-amp as an issue - iirc Pat Park stated its the same pre-amp and pick-up as in the SBMM models - which Bass Player (and others) reviewed and praised..
wonder if they ended up opting to downgrade the electronics package?
the naming does seem like taking the p*** after the reaction to the Sterling By Musicman name....

Well, these aren't even marketed as Music Man, so it's not so bad.
BTW, I was playing my original S.U.B. last night, which I don't normally do because of the oppressive weight, and once again was amazed by what an impressive, indestructible instrument it is. I was fortunate enough to get a new passive 4 (my preferred configuration) for $329 at GC some years ago when the wine-vomit purple was discontinued. It's a remarkable bass.
I just wish it was a bit lighter and in a little less fugly color.
