New guy here with incoming Grand Slampegg and UA soon . Does anybody here have these two on their board? Do they pair well?

I know the GS is clean, would running the UA in front of it with the EQ off as a
boost help it break up? Sorry if this is a silly question.. not a huge pedal guy (only others on my board are compressor and tuner). This is my first foray into anything tubey as well, with my main amp being a d800+.

I have both, although I've mostly used them on either side at the end of a stereo chain rather than one into the other, but based on how the UA seems to work nicely as a boost into pretty much anything I'd imagine it'd work.

I might even try it out later this evening if I get some spare time

ngl, the tone stack defeat on the UA makes it very functional pedal in a variety of settings.

i wish it was a lot more common.

100 it will. I have a Space Heater which is a UA without the tone stack (or is the UA a SH with a tone stack ) it's a helluva boost pedal.

I currently use it as tone sweetener in front of a digital modeller (this is the future BTW) but have used in front of tube amps and other tube pedals and it works amazingly well.

Word of warning though, the UA has a massive output. I think it has trim pot inside or you could tame with a lower gain 12A?7 tube. But I think it's got over 30 dB on tap.

BTW I've just rolled in a 12AU7 into an Ampeg PF50T and it sounds amazing! But I need a boost pedal to get some break up if I want it.

Don't be afraid of tube rolling (after you've had fun with the stock tube) and NOS tubes are a vibe and often cheaper than new JJs.

And it's an education, learner about why black plate tubes are sort after and why it doesn't really make a difference if the plate is black or grey!

I was looking at the More pedal as well.. had to take a break from visiting the website to save my wallet.. I’m sure I’ll have more than enough fun with these two for now!

My wife is going to wonder what these sushi box packages are..I’ll probably just tell her that I signed up for a new meal prep service. Sushi is healthy right?

So I ran to the mailbox when I got home from work and ripped open the box with my teeth, then proceeded to attach Velcro and place the finally. V3 on my pedal board.

I am super busy with 2 gigs and a 8-4, so I needed to practice right away to save time.

I like it! The separate volume controls and the way the gain can be added and then volume adjusted at the xlr out is really very versatile to get a variety of gain tones.

The HPF, when switched on, has a secret sauce and tightens up everything very clearly. I only had to adjust it a hair up, maybe 45Hz?

So I went through a set list twice and really liked what I heard.

I also checked the pre out to my amp, I go through the return in, and it drives it perfectly with a whole lot of volume on tap.

I have finally. V1 and a Neptunium as well, and this finally. V3 is a home run.

And on a side note, I don’t think a higher gain tube is needed in my case.

Set up a channel for Bluetooth going in the aux input. This was for practicing with my iPhone. The NP really did wonder for the tone in the headphones! Then tried it into the amp. I set the NP flat and was able to get a pretty good tone from my system. Aggie 659 and Bergy IP.
Looking forward to more testing. Also have been trying the Nux wireless headphones and instrument unit. Pretty good.

Received my first Sushi Box pedal today and could not be more pleased with the tone. My Markbass 2x6 sounds like my old Fender Bandmaster 2x12. It’s like bass with butter on top!

I have not been able to find enough online to really compare their overall sound. Just curious if there's a significant difference. Thanks.

Hi, so I’m interested in buying a sushibox pedal. Im running an origin effects bassrig ‘64 black panel always on into a solid state fender bassman from the late 2000’s. I’d like to add a little tubey goodness into my preamp section and I was wondering what you guys think I’d be better off with. I’m debating between the More and the greenhouse. I’d probably run the More in front of the bassrig vs the greenhouse where I’m considering utilizing the fx loop on the amp to envelop the pre amp pedal as well as the amps pre amp in the green house.

What do you guys think would be better? The More offers more tubes but the greenhouse will allow me to surround the entire pre amp section with tubey goodness which could be interesting.

The GH signal would look something like this; Guitar -> GH input -> GH send -> preamp pedal -> front of amp -> amps send -> GH return -> amp return

Is this idea dumb? Has anyone experimented with using the GH like this?

in that way it would be like the effects loop return on a walter woods, cause that’s what it sounds like anyways.
worth a thought.

I have and use both....currently on the same board. They can be set to overlap quite a bit, and either can run clean through filthy. The Elementary/ HiWatt tone stack makes it easier to emphasize upper mid/high content, so I like to use it for dirt, while the UA provides an almost always on bass boost/tube fullness. But I reiterate, they can both easily run the full gamut and there's more overlap than distinction between the 2. UA can be set very close to flat (0-10-0), but the HiWatt stack is never really close to flat).

You can use this online simulator to play with both tone stacks and see the freq curves. This incredibly useful tool needs to be permanently stuck somewhere...this must be the nth time in this thread is has been reposted:

I get what you’re saying, but the volume works with gain staging the pedals within its loop. This allows for all sorts of interesting setups.

I can see how adding a (probably homemade) blend pedal would be handy… but I’ve got other stuff in line first..
