As much as I like the HPF on the neptunium I really need to go back to a switchable one for when I want to play with an octave pedal and not have to reach down and turn it off.

Went ahead and ordered a Neptunium just in case they're close to being dunzo. Will shoot it out with my Finally and fully prepared to be keeping both 
i’m pretty sure the others are right about them being george L. i’ve had them since the early 90’s i think, so im not too sure anymore.
stack? i run them into each other and turn some off or on for different sounds.
i’m a big fan of just finally.
they’re not pushing each other hard as im more set up for clean than drive but even with a low gain tube i can dial gain up on the UA for the random need of sitting in the mix in a different way.
i play mostly upright and changed the more to have a really high input impedance.
electric bass also goes through this, and i’m able to dial in most everything needed.
i use hand signs for when i want the soundie to flip my phase if im not using the more 100% of the gig.
Welcome to the wonderful world of tube equipment. While yes, preamp tubes can last for decades, quite a few still develope noises and failures.
If you want to play with tubes, its always recommended to keep a spare tube around. That is always the first thing to test.

John K was also recently suspended. I've never seen either of them be confrontational or break any rules that I'm aware of. Both of them are commercial users, so maybe breaking some sort of terms of service?
Why on earth is Nathan suspended. I almost wish I didn't just pay for a full year. I've been on the fence lately and this crap is getting ridiculous. I'm about to say goodbye if this continues.
Maybe it's as simple as an expired credit card for his commercial user payment.

I’ve known John for a long time now. We don’t text as often since he’s moved but I still check in with him to see how him and the wife are doing. It’s a huge loss for this community. I hope it’s not the same fate for Nathan.
Agree… And a couple of the reasons that I have lost a lot of interest in this website. I love the people but this nonsense is just making it no fun. I've been here for a pretty darn long time. I would hate to lose the sense of community I feel here, but I'm starting to not care anymore.

Tonight I brought a small combo and my pedalboard front-ended with my UA, gain up enough to just start to compress a little, a little bass boost, a little more treble boost, mids full up... man, does that thing satisfy! It might be the most bang for the buck of any piece of gear I've bought since 2002.

Other than the spambots and the like, no one is banned from TalkBass without warning. There are are warnings, and first, second, and third strikes. We're not going to discuss details about specific members. I understand that this can mean that stories get out, but we're not going to do it.
As suggested a few posts ago, thread posts that are questioning of moderation can result in a rule 5 violation of the TOS. I'm not doing any warnings with the posts that are up on this page, but please get back to topic (as I know the poster before me is trying to do).
This isn't a kind of veiled threat (really, it isn't) but if someone does want to have their account closed, feel free to send me a message rather than clutter up this thread. This is a really good point. For a great example I'm familiar with, take the Underground Accelerator, which "takes inspiration from the Alembic F-2B". The Alembic F-2B was Alembic's early repackaging and refinement of the Fender AB763-era preamp stages. And Fender (according to some folklore I remember) basically adapted reference designs from the RCA Receiving Tube Manual, I'm guessing more by tinkering than by deep understanding.
Of course, the derivatives are rarely just "clones." Change a couple resistor values just a little, the gain or EQ points will change to something more suitable for a particular use. These tweaks can produce a crystal clear preamp (like, for example, a Demeter) or something highly responsive to tube rolling and its gain control, like my UA.
If you have a head for electronics and want your mind blown by all the craaaazy things you can do with even relatively simple tube circuits, head over to John Broskie's Tube CAD Journal web site. I still can't quite wrap my head around the Circlotron....
