The Technology Challenged

Our society was cold and impersonal long before the tech came along that catered to that mindset.

I think that this modern technology has warmed things up quite a bit! I can easily send a message to almost any of my friends/family anytime I want. In fact, I am currently texting back and forth with a friend 3 states away, while we are both at work... making plans to get together over the holidays.

I was also talking on my cell with my son (on his cell) yesterday, I was in the backyard adjusting the antenna, he was in the living room telling me if the TV reception was getting better or worse.

The technology isn't cold, people are!

Thats exactly what I was saying. Its the cold, impersonal people who use the technology in a cold, impersonal way. The technology only caters to the mindset of the individual. If I were a warm, personable, "I like to have conversations via the phone" type I could use the technology for those ends as well. Myself, I prefer my conversations in person, and use the technology to set those face to face meetings in place.

People who can't organize their schedule and effectively communicate irritate me. I don't think this has anything to do with technology.

Honestly, if there is a "band 101", this should be in the short list of necessary skills to being successful.

Ideally, a band should have a shared google calendar where members update their schedule for open dates. The person scheduling gigs and rehearsals should be able to check the calender and proceed without contacting anybody except to notify when an event is scheduled.

Ideally, in general, yes that is a great way to proceed.
However, not everyone in my band has regular internet access.
For us, its much simpler to send a text to 4 people at once "Are you available Xdate at Ytime to play venueZ?"
Even better was how I ran my previous band. Since I did all the booking I asked every member to notify me of any dates they couldnt play. If a date was offered, and not on my "Do Not Book" list I'd go ahead and confirm, without having to ask anyone, and then sent a text notifying them of the booked gig.
