I started on the guitar in the hopes of being or comparing to Jimi Hendrix. But then I became discouraged with all the chords and scales. That doesnt mean I till dont play but not as often.

I decided to play bass mostly due the overall sound and the groove. It just hit me one day and I said I have to play the bass or my life wont be the same. And the idea of being the backbone of the band seemed to interest me.

Play both so you can have the best of both worlds. Half the people hear probably play more than one instrument then the bass.

That is me in every sense except bass was my first choice, but I decided on guitar first. I still want to be Hendrix, but being Claypool or Wooten works, too.

Lol yes same would work. Les Claypool is just amazing.

I think when I get enough money Ill invest in a new guitar but for now bass is my thing.

i like that jesus cat thing. It s funny though, I read a thread recently where everyone on a different thread was bagging guitarists who think they can play bass? maybe threre is a thread somewhere in a guitar site forum saying "i hate those bass players who think they can play guitar!!!!"

It's funny. I started playing bass to strengthen my hands for playing guitar. I ended up never playing guitar again, though I still have several.

I occasionally break one out for messing around with, but I haven't even considered playing guitar in a band again. I should probably sell these things, however I've never sold an instrument. I don't think I want to start either.

I find bass a million times more fun to play than guitar. I've always loved the groove and my progression of instruments has finally led me to the one I believe is meant for me. I started on sax, then to guitar, then to bass. Don't regret a thing (and I still have every instrument I've ever owned).

Kidding aside, if it's what you need/want to do, more power to you. Be sure to post about the bassists who play with you.

IMHO you should play every instrument you can get your hands on...

And I love the guitar, but when I play it, it feels awkward, Like Im not supposed to play it... The guitar rejects me. But the Bass is (IMHO) a lot more fun to play, I cant realy describe what I mean, The bass just feels "Right" to me...

I've had a couple of guitars in the last year and a half. Playing both helps you understand how the two instruments work together. Guitar has also helped me remember chord structures and such.
