There is no problem in measuring both, is there? If you understand the methodology for setting up an instrument rather than being a step-follower then you can apply whichever measurement is most appropriate for that instrument. A bolt-on might be totally different to a neck-through or a singlecut for example. I would certainly take a different view on all of these. I think I read this guide a while back however I really can't remember, so apologies if I am repeating what might have already been said or alluded to.
