The Valenti Megathread

I'm sure this question has been asked at least 12 times in this thread but about how long does it take him to make a guitar? There's 42 pages and I'm not going through them all.
Currently, I'm not taking any new order until March '08. The current batch of basses I'm building have a 6-7 month lead time due to me switching supplier and some unforeseen CNC programing delays.

When I start taking orders again in March, I'm hoping to be able to offer a shorter lead time, in the area of 4 months.

#42 is in the for sale pages. It was here in Buffalo. If it was a 35" ( which I've decided I prefer ergonomically ), I'd be on it like a cheap suit. Even though green aint my thing.

( well there is a green beret in mothballs in my closet!)

That was actually # 41.. I usually prefer a 35" scale myself, but that bass played and sounded nice...

Its the higher regisiter work SCT, where the fret spacing of a 35" 24 fret helps me.( needing all the help I can get)

Nino's going to build me a 35" 24 fret ebony board 5 string P bass with a Dark Star.( in DEEP PURPLE w/headstock) But he dont know it yet! ;) Waiting on the pup.
You're preaching to the choir here!!

Let me know when you get this one, it would be interesting to check it out..

Just a quick appreciation note as we approach the new year. In the last few months, my Valenti 5 has been successfully stealing market share from my other main instrument, which is itself an extremely well crafted bass.

The Valenti is light, articulate, sits nicely in a mix, is classy looking, and feels as solid as a rock. I've really appreciated having it in the herd, and as I said it is sitting right up there near the front these days.

Sadly I don't have any performance shots with it yet - it seems like nobody brings the camera on the nights when I play it. But here it is at home:

I'm beginning to think about another one, which would probably be a fretless, ash body, quilt top, some kind of black/red burst finish, ebony board, single Nordstrand MM pickup in the sweet spot, and a preamp to be named later.

Happy New Year to all, and thanks, Nino!

Super nice combo!!!, +1, it's my Valenti or my 6 string, maybe one day Nino might venture into the 6 string market.
Thanks - I think the quilt top, tort guard, and the maple board are an unusual combination. But I saw a picture of Sadowsky #4511, which is like that too, and just fell in love with all of the modern and retro contradictions that the combination suggests. I had to have one like it!

I also have a clear and a parchment pickguard for it. The clear one makes it look like a modern J instead of a vintage one - nice look, I had that guard on it for a few months. The parchment guard is the one you would expect on that body and board combination, so I got that one too on Nino's recommendation. I find that look to be a little obvious, so I don't use it much. I suppose it's nice to have, just in case. It does look nice, only in a more expected way, if that makes sense.

I think it looks great with the Tort guard! It would be an awesome looking bass either way.

Cheers,
Jim
+1!

WJGreer,
I just ordered another J style bass and while it doesn't have a beautifully figured top like yours, it's a sunburst with a maple neck, and I definitely went with the tort guard. Way cool look!

Cool - I do think it's an interesting combination, glad I went that route. Not something you see every day.

tGuys, I'm not ready to post this in Classifieds yet, but I'm going back to 35" compound radius neck, i.e., Lakland. Nino's #008 will need to be sold to fund the JoBo. ( J 5, Nordy's ,active, birdseye neck/board/Lake Placid blue. )Figured I'd give you folks a heads up. Awesome bass, No issues. Mint. Nino does excellent work. The bass should have been a keeper, but flatter 35" necks fit me best for some reason.

MODS: I am a supporting member and will use the Classifieds. Jsut thought I'd give a heads up here.

And I still have a 35" ebony board purple P bass in my dreams,"Purple Haze" . Nino will have to make that one. I dont know how we can get a puple sunburst, but I have some crackerjack auto paint guys as buds, they can do just about anything.
