The Valenti Megathread

I just bought the Valenti #018 and I must say that this is a well designed and a great sounding bass. Nino, you do excellent work. I was extremely lucky in getting this bass and I feel priviledged to join the club. Here's to a super instrument with a great sound.

I'm subscribing too. When the 24s come out, I wonder if we could fit ol #008 with a bound/inlayed maple board in 35".

Love the bass more and more. Electronics have become teats on a bull hog, as the passive tone is to die for. Might even pull the Aggie out and do a new control board with std jazz controls. Volume is a bit close for slap work, esp up in passive mode.

I'm confused, Valenti #008 is a 24 fret model, just in 34" scale. Ya'll mean 24/35" right?
#008 and a couple of other 5 string basses I build using Warmoth parts had the 24 fret extension. It was only available on 5 string basses.

Currently, I'm working on a 24 fret 4 string and 5 string that has an extended cutaway for easier access to the upper frets. The 5 string will be available in 34" and 35" scale.

Nino, how far out are you from taking orders for your first 24's?
I can accept orders for a 24 fret 5 now.

It's a 24 fret board, but it does so using a fretboard extension, so the last few frets aren't that accessible, because the lower horn isn't any different from a 21 fret model. I think the new Valenti 24 Frets will be similar to the Sadowsky 24 Fret models, in the sense that the lower horn is cut back farther, to make it a 'True' 24 Fret, instead of just a fretboard extension.

As soon as I can get the preamp I want, I'm ordering a 24 Fret 4 String.

What preamp do you want? Maybe I can get it.

I don't think so, because it doesn't exist :p

I basically want a Wal Mk II, hence the 24 Fret 4 String. The AC Guitars preamp is the only preamp like the Wal preamp, filter based. But I really don't like stacked knobs. I had talked to John East a while back about modding the preamp so that the mounted controls were Volume, Blend, and Filter Frequency (x2), with the rest of the controls mounted in the control cavity. Doing this would require some custom pots to be made, I think they were $75 each, and a few other bits and pieces, pushing the total price of the preamp close to $600, with some one-off pieces. That's a bit expensive for just a preamp, and I don't like the idea of using one-off electronic components. John mentioned that he might have something in the works that'd be what I'm looking for, but I haven't heard anything since. I'll shoot him an e-mail later, but I imagine he's pretty busy, and hasn't had much time to think about it.
