The Video Game Thread

I'm currently playing Red Dead Redemption 2, Destiny 2, and revisiting some older ones like Tom Clancey's Wildlands, Darksiders II,
I am playing COD BO4. The usual thing but fun to play.

I downloaded Destiny2 campaign for free yesterday. The campaign is so so. Go to Blizzard. I think you can still download for free as long as you make an account.

I've been playing Destiny II on the PS4 since it's release. I have all the expansions for it as well. It's a good game and all, but there are some things they should have done differently. Nightfall strikes, and raids should have match making abilities.

The post-apocalyptic/survival horror genre is my overall fave, so the game I am currently most stoked for is The Last Of Us 2...assuming Naughty Dog ever gets around to finishing/releasing it...:banghead:

I really should get around, at some point, to finishing Fallout 2, which I probably haven't touched in two years now.

I'm loving Battlefield 5 right now. I think it's one of the best to come out in years. Just started another game on Skyrim a few weeks ago and I've been playing the mega man x legacy collection in between.

Skyrim yeah. Level 42 altmer just finished off Ancano and became arch mage of the College today. Have no idea what to do with him now.

Probably start a new character

Half-Life and Counterstrike were huge part of my life from 14 to 23, lol! I can’t believe how many hours I poured into those two games.

That sucks about your marriage, but I understand how consuming some of these games can be... My wife has a natural hatred towards video games for some reason. I think she thinks they’re for children or something. Two days ago I had 2 hours worth of chores to do. I came home early and did them all with about 5 minutes to spare before she came home, so I booted up the PS4.

She walks in and right away goes into the “do you not have anything better to do?”. I explained that I did all of the stuff that needed to get done but she was already in a bad mood. I don’t get it really. I don’t complain when she watches TV or is on her phone for hours, but I play PS4 for more than an hour and she looses her mind, lol.

I just need to balance it out a bit better.

I don't mean to sound judgmental or condescending or negative in any way, so take what I say with a grain of salt. I'm also not an educated or trained healthcare worker in any way so keep that in mind as well.

This is her not respecting a hobby of yours. It doesn't matter if she thinks it's childish. In a loving and respectful relationship where you've entered a lifelong partnership with someone, there's a big underlying problem when one party has the inability to respect the other's hobbies.

I know some people worry about video games because they've read media stories about how addicting they are. The bottom line is that a person with an addictive personality will become addicted to anything that provides them with a rush or release that they don't get in their daily routine. It doesn't matter what the substance is.

It's ironic that the people worried the most about their loved ones playing too many video games, are the same people who can't miss an episode of whatever crap reality show is on primetime TV (dancing with the stars, the bachelor, whatever), or those people are glued to their phone tweeting 24/7 or posting on Facebook 24/7.

The open PvP mostly. It doesn't work in an open world format. Ultima Online tried it. The griefers and trolls will drive the main player base out. In RvR type modes a game can thrive. Dark Age of Camelot was fantastic for this.

But, I'm also not too fond of the leveling system either. 4 was too dumbed down imo, but the settlement aspect kept me more than happy. Fallout 3 was the best with the absolute best DLCs. The mod community really gave the game legs too since you could reinvent the game to keep it fresh.

By and large I'm just over MMO's.

That's a realistic gripe with FO76, and it seems to be the issue many people are having with it. Overall, the game definitely needs some work yet. I'm personally not into open world PvP games myself. I do like MMO's, but I prefer co-op style play. I used to play World of Warcraft, but I always played on PvE realms.

I've been playing FO76 pretty regularly since beta started and I will say that open world PvP isn't as much of an issue as some people are thinking it is, but that's not to say the system in place is good. It's pretty bad really. There's a "slap damage" system in place. If you attack a player, you deal about 1/20th of the damage you should, UNTIL they attack you back. Essentially, if a player is attacking you, you can damn near ignore it, but the problem is, it's an annoyance.

They really should just have two server types, one with co-op only which is arguably what the typical Fallout franchise fan would want more, and a open world PvP style server without the slap damage mechanic. I just can't imagine players looking for PvP are having fun slapping players for 10 minutes straight only to never get into a fight, and it's just annoying for me.

That said, I've played for about 10 hours total, and I've only been shot one time by another player. It seems most players just want to explore the map. That may change when more people are max level though.

I also wasn't fond of FO4's leveling and perk system. I liked FO3 and New Vegas far more, but I think the system in FO76 is better then FO4 by a bit with the exception of the choice of perks you can choose being slightly random.

Overall, I understand that it's not quite the Fallout game for many of the franchises true fans, but I see it as a fantastic framework that hopefully someday will grow into something amazing.

Apparently Fallout 76 is getting some really bad reviews, guess I won't know till I try it

It is, and for the most part, I don't disagree with most of them, but I'm still having a good time with the game, and it's really hard for me to explain why...

I guess on the PC, Destiny II is a little different. People had gripes about leveling and micro transactions. I just DLd the main game. I will see if I like this part before I dump more money.

I might just get the blizzard one year pack.

I've been on the fence about that one. BF1 kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. How different is it compared to that?

I would say it's s combination of bad company, bf4 and bf1. All of the good elements those games had rolled into one. They took out 3d spotting which makes the game a lot more fun to play. It's a lot more squad based now and less run and gun and solo play that bf1 had.

Fellow Gamers! Nice!

Any FGC oriented gamers here? My local group and I have been loving the new Soul Calibur, though the netcode needs a bit of a fix, additionally when we get fed up with that (stupid black screen when the network glitches out) we've gone back to Tekken 7. Man, what a game; smooth, accessible and so incredibly deep!

Also, anybody catch the NA CPT finals this past weekend? The top 8 was just incredible. Can't wait for Capcup!
