The Walking Dead RIP

Season 11 has been very hit and miss. A couple of episodes reminded me of the earlier years. Especially the one where the original gang escape and reform and begin their plan for the end. But, ultimately it went out in a blaze of sentimentality and a lack of originality. For those who haven’t watched it yet I’ll avoid spoilers. Suffice to say that they shy away from any major upsets whilst reusing old plot devices. I found myself fast forwarding one 5 minute gush fest of sentimentality. It felt more like a farewell for the actors and crew than a dramatic ending for the loyal fans who’ve stuck with it for years.

The Walking Dead died when Rick got on that helicopter. I wont be watching Daryl in Wonderland or Maggie and Negan have a picnic, or whatever the spin offs end up being.

The Zombies are dead, RIP.

It was really entertaining when it was about a group of interesting people fighting zombies in interesting ways. Once the zombies became scenery and the show became a relationship drama, it got old fast.

When Daryl uttered the titular line I openly cursed at my television. Shave off the last 15-20min of the finale and it doesn't suck so bad. They could have won me back if that ancillary character's last breath out was through a harmonica.

I came back and watched the most of the last two or so episodes, and I was reminded why I was tired of it in the first place.

This may seem goofy, but the idea of perpetually roving reanimated corpses just got dumb after a while. Of course, the premise is far fetched, but if it indeed happened and the body is truly dead, it will rot and eventually become immobile, and decompose. After 11 years, the living had time to get a handle on managing dead bodies. Herds of roaming dead bodies was just dumb over an extended period of time since the reason behind the reanimating was supposedly biological. The way the bodies moved forever was magical or supernatural, and the show did not have a supernatural premise.

I've never understood the fascination with zombies. The concept is (literally) impossible (from a physiological standpoint). Just weird.

For me to really be entertained by a plot, it has to be pure fantasy or plausible. This (and all zombie....stuff... ) hovered in that middle ground. Zombie movies/shows try to convince you that the scenario is plausible. But it simply isn't

That entire finale was a setup for the 3-4 spinoff shows AMC will be shoving down our throats. The creators of that entire franchise are money-grubbing sellouts.

The first couple of seasons were fun. The rest was convoluted.

I just wanted some answers about what happened. They never gave any answers. Just more more more of the same only amped up.

Rehabilitating Negan after what he did? No. Not buying it.

Were there ever any answers?

Edit: Covid was a factor in the show’s decline. Rick disappears so he can go do movies except oops Covid hit.

Killing off Carl combined with Rick’s exit was a colossal mistake.

Daryl and Negan were pretty much the only reasons I stuck with it. That proved to be a waste of time on my part.

It’s funny, I stopped watching TWD right after Rick left the show. I tuned into the finale & didn’t feel like I had missed much. I was curious to see if they would answer any finale-sized questions. Nope. Just more of the same.

Don't forget it doubled as platform to advertise the two Anne Rice shows! My theory is she ran afoul of a bookie and sold the rights on the cheap.

We stopped watching when AMC decided to fight with most every major TV service but standard cable. Pay extra for AMC? Screw that noise.

Really enjoyed the first bunch of seasons, but the "holy crap, we forgot there are zombies!" moments that became the norm, and the exact same moral dilemma over and over and over and over again: If you don't kill the bad guy, they come back and kill more of your people, and always with some BS bleeding heart crap about "oh noes! We CAN'T become as bad as THEM!" Yeah, let's keep Neegan as a pet. One of the silliest plot moves in the entire history of people writing scripts. AMC started their pay to play nonsense shortly after, and we checked out on it completely. Didn't know it was still on until the hype for the "last" episode. A really good friend of mine (Nick Basta) is an actor on one of the new spin-offs, so we may check it out, but only if we can find a free/included source.
