Like I said, I dont have a teacher, and cant afford one. But dont undersell yourselves! The forums and the people who write in them have helped me progress dramatically in the last couple of months.If nothing else, it's helped point me in the right direction; which is all I can see myself getting from a teacher anyway. If you cant afford a teacher, dont get one.

I've never considered sharing my experience and knowledge with other bassists as 'underselling myself'. I, too, have learned much just by talking with other bass players. Because of that I am always willing to share what I know.

Right now I don't have the money for lessons but would love to take some. I'm just saving a little here and there (mostly in change) and when I have the forty-odd dollars and the time I'll call my teacher (or colleague) from college and do an intense lesson. Sometimes the colleagues just want to hang and talk bass. So that will save me some money, too!

I guess my point is that it's worth it to find a more experienced player to befriend. You can learn a lot that way.

And thats why I love talkbass. Its awesome to find experienced bassists who have been through the same problems as you and are willing to give their advice to get you through.

My problem is that I dont know any bassists close to home. I, too, would love to take lessons, but I simply dont have the time or money. Id love to find a guy or gal thats been playing for years and knows everything I need to, but in the meantime, these forums more than do the trick when I'm in a bind about anything. I guess its just good to have this as a great fallback when theres no one with any musical knowledge in my direct vicinity, at least outside of the interweb.

Yeah, I've learned plenty of stuff here on TB too. It's a great place; novice or virtuoso.
