The Washburn Taurus -- a hidden treasure?

I doubt many of the little guys have the $$ to do this.

You can register trademarks online yourself for a nominal fee, and it's not that expensive even if you hire an attorney to do it for you.

Consider the money that you'll be able to wring out of a company like USM if you sue them and win - not to mention the precedent that you'd be setting. Gibson, Fender et al. would think twice about suing the little guys if they start suing back.

There's no point in arguing that "ripoffs" are unfair if no one's going to take the steps to protect what's being ripped off in the first place.

well for all you guys thinking about the taurus i do have one for sale. it's the 5 string model. I have had it over a year and have been very happy with it. My complaints are the same as theones already voiced, it's heavy and the electronics could use an upgrade. for the price you sure can't beat it though. if any of you guys are interested in buying one give me a pm.

I have a 4 string for sale (T24). It just hasn't gotten playing time lately, so I thought I'd pass it along. $350 and I'll ship it to lower 48. I bought it last Dec.

I've got a couple of Washburns. In fact, I have one sitting on a stand here next to my desk at work - for when I feel the urge to do a little playing.

A lot of people look down on Washburns because they aren't a high end name (and for all the trouble they got into years ago lying about where their product was being made) - but...

I love the 2 that I have. I have an XB400 sitting at work and a Taurus at home. Nice low action on both of them with no worries of them fretting out on the higher frets, etc.

I have no problem with Washburns. I like 'em.

I recently bought a Washburn XB925 fretless 5-string. It has a zebrawood top with a swamp-ash body and an oil finish. I couldn't be happier. Definitely underpriced at $1300.

I have seen some limited edition Taurus basses on ebay with a single Basslines MM5 humbucker and a three band preamp. They were selling for about the same as the other models. I think that would be a great sounding bass and a great deal.

That's a pretty swank deal...if only I was in the market for a new bass (and a fretted 5 at that) I'd be all over it.

On the weight thing, how much do they actually weigh? I noticed it was significantly heavier than my fretless, but then again, so is my Samick.

I believe that the active versions were the prototype models - the T34 and T35.

I could be wrong, but that's what I've been told at least.

I found that electronics suck on the Taurus. Finish isn't the best.
It is an excellent upgrade platform though, elegant and comfortable.

I own a Taurus 4 with the single seymour duncan basslines that you're speaking of... I also USED to own the other version with the two j pickups.. and i've come to find that the weird single pickup version is a rare find and it plays/sounds MUCH better than the mass produced version!

It's absolutley something to pick up if you can ever find one.

I'm thinking of letting mine go for the right combo amp though.

For me, it's the best 5 string bass I've ever played...
I tried a Fender Jazz Bass V, and a Hohner The Jack Bass Custom V, nothing beats the playability of the Wash...
Hardware is great, electronics could be better (they are ok, I the pickups... but that bass deserves something better!)...
I'm going to change the pickups in the next months... suggestions?
