Can't top that. :bassist:

The only upright I own is a carved instrument that I inherited, and my wife understands the value both sentimental and monetary. She is all on board for me getting a 'beater' lamy or hybrid instrument for gigging, so I don't destroy the carved one. Truth be told - I think she worries about it more than I do.

In our household it's self-regulating; if I have another bass she has another horse. We have an uneasy truce at four right now. Amps, well that's a different matter entirely. You can sneak those little fellas in quite easily, I'm off to buy an MB200 right now. She'll never notice.

As teacher, I proposed that it made sense for me to have a copy of my main bass in plywood to keep in my office (where the climate varies wildly) and as a backup in case anything happens to my main bass. Proposal accepted on the grounds that it was reasonable to my wife. Now if I were asking for a third bass, I'd likely get my wings clipped, and with good reason.

My wife is very tolerant, and the number of basses and guitars is far more acceptable than the full size console Allen organ I had. Sold that in compromise to getting a DB. Other than that, I have a fretless 4, a V, a Variax (which I got so that I can play a Show pit orchestra with only one bass), and a Michael Kelly fretless 5 acoustic. Other than a snide comment here and there about "things just showing up," there is harmony in the house.
