It's still in the infancy stages, but I think enough people have bought Wing Basses to create our own little corner. Post up your Wing Bass photos, video or sound clips, etc. Some reference links for those interested: Wing Bass - Enabling you to fly... https://m.facebook.com/wingbass The Wing Travel Bass has Arrived NBD!!! WingBass **The Wing Bass is not for everyone. If you don't like it, think it's stupid, or feel like bashing it, please don't do it in this thread. This thread is for those of us that think the Wing Bass is pretty damn cool! _____________________ Members: 1. Andy Brown 2. Photobassist 3. Showdown 4. Battline
The "first-sold production" Wing Bass, owned by yours truly. It was originally tuned E-C, but I filed the nut and tuned it B-G. Currently strung with LaBella Deep Talkin' SS flats. I also made a thumbrest stained to match, since I usually play right on or at the edge of the fingerboard.
@Showdown #3, be sure to post some photos once the bass arrives. @Battline #4, I saw your video over on the Wing Bass website. Very nice! Welcome to the club gentlemen!
Sorry this response took so long, but here you go. Just a hint. NAMM Hint by Andy Brown posted Jun 21, 2016 at 5:52 PM
The logo looks like "Wing Instruments" so I'm gonna take a wild swing, and guess you've got a "Wing guitar" in the lineup.
Just bought a 6 string Wing bass! Looking forward to it. It will travel to work with me, as well as on the road. Pics when I get it
Man I want a 6 string so bad, that would be prefect for school. If anyone could just donate to a broke musician with dreams, that would be great. One day I'll have one. If they do customs I have a few ideas brewing
Chris 's Bass? Chris knows how to bring his bass visions to various builders and his strings are wonderful!
Look like inspiring instruments to me, especially the 7-string and fretless versions. Taking something familiar to a place different enough to bring new things out of one's playing. Would love to try one.
Chris Cardone actually gave us the freedom to do whatever we wanted... he just said "go wild", so we did. Chris Stambaugh nailed it.
I've recently become aware of the Wing bass and they seem like a terrific idea and beautiful to look at too! I'm planning on ordering one very soon. Probably the six string model. Does anyone have advice on how the wood choices affect the tone? The choices are Mahogany or Black Limba for the body and Rosewood or Maple for the neck. I like the Mahogany and Maple aesthetically, but I know I prefer a tone that's on the deeper and darker side and not too bright, especially for the C string. Also, any thoughts or comments about the the string spacing of either 18 or 17 mm? I know it must seem obvious that either I like a narrower spacing or don't, but it's such a unique instrument I just thought it was worthwhile to ask. Thanks and I'm looking forward to joining your club soon!
@Mark Plays Bass I can't really comment on the tone of mahogany and maple, but I can tell you that I think 17mm feels a bit too tight on a 5 string at times. I'm not sure how much of a difference 1mm makes, but if I was to order again I'd probably go with 18mm spacing. Having said that, I still thoroughly enjoy my Wing Bass and I highly recommend them to anyone that's interested in trying a bass that is different, yet still familiar.
