I guess if basses were instruments that always stayed in the studio, relicing would not be a thing; no one buys reliced mixing consoles, right?

No but they do go in search of vintage equipment that can achieve a particular sound. Compressors and desks from certain eras are considered holy grails and fantastically expensive. It’s this kudos that relicking is trying to feed off. I just don’t understand why everybody is cool with that and not buffing up a bass till it looks brand new.
