The Yes Game

Another game cribbed from the Best Bass game. Each album starts with 10 points, and you + 1 point to one album, and - 1 point to another album.

If an album hits zero, it is eliminated. Last album standing wins.

You get to vote ONE +1 point and ONE -1 point PER DAY and you must use both your plus and your minus each time. Please don't go against this. It will ruin the game. It's supposed to go for a very long time.

Every time you put your answer you must copy and paste the new list. When an album is eliminated, just put a zero next to its name so we can see what it was. Do not delete its name.

Also write a + or - sign and indicate which band you voted for. And make sure you remove the previous poster's + and - symbol so there is no confusion.

Adding an album: I stuck to major Yes releases up to 90125, but you may add any other albums IF YOU USE YOUR PLUS VOTE FOR THEM IMMEDIATELY (You still subtract one from another album). So any added album will start with 11 points. This is to deter the list from getting cluttered with a bunch of albums which don't have much of a realistic chance of surviving to the end. (Also, please no box sets/greatest hits compilations, just stuff Yes wrote, recorded and released in "real-time" in a manner of speaking).

Remember that you don't necessarily have to continually vote for your favorite album or against your least favorite. The goal is to strategically manuever your chosen album to win, which may call for voting for different albums.

Let's Rock:

10 Yes
10 Time and a Word
10 The Yes Album
10 Fragile
10 Close to the Edge
10 Yessongs
10 Tales From Topographic Oceans
10 Relayer
10 Going for the One
10 Tormato
10 Drama
10 90125

I'll start and be a little controversial for an opening:

10 Yes
10 Time and a Word
10 The Yes Album
10 Fragile
10 Close to the Edge
10 Yessongs
11 Tales From Topographic Oceans +
10 Relayer
10 Going for the One
9 Tormato -
10 Drama
10 90125

9 Yes-
10 Time and a Word
10 The Yes Album
10 Fragile
11 Close to the Edge+
10 Yessongs
12 Tales From Topographic Oceans +
10 Relayer
10 Going for the One
9 Tormato
9 Drama -
10 90125

9 Yes
10 Time and a Word
10 The Yes Album
10 Fragile
11 Close to the Edge
10 Yessongs
12 Tales From Topographic Oceans
10 Relayer
10 Going for the One
8 Tormato -
10 Drama +
10 90125

The last valid score was:

9 Yes
10 Time and a Word
10 The Yes Album
10 Fragile
11 Close to the Edge
10 Yessongs
12 Tales From Topographic Oceans
10 Relayer
10 Going for the One
8 Tormato
10 Drama
10 90125

Joshua and Petary, add 1 to one album and only one album, and subtract one from one and only one album. Probably best to call do-over on your posts and not count them. Try again.

Actually, you work from the previous poster (but I think you know that, just making sure.). No problem though. You want +1 to Close to the Edge and -1 to Drama. So here is the official score with Joshua's vote:

9 Yes
10 Time and a Word
10 The Yes Album
10 Fragile
12 Close to the Edge +
10 Yessongs
12 Tales From Topographic Oceans
10 Relayer
10 Going for the One
8 Tormato
9 Drama -
10 90125

And Petary may revote. I think he wanted to add to Yes, but it isn't clear if he meant to subtract from Tormato or Drama.

P.S. I edited the rules because there was one line that may have confused people. Should be clear now (I hope) :)

10 Yes +
10 Time and a Word
10 The Yes Album
10 Fragile
12 Close to the Edge
10 Yessongs
12 Tales From Topographic Oceans
10 Relayer
10 Going for the One
8 Tormato
8 Drama -
10 90125

I will say that killing the list at a disc released 24 years ago from a band that is still making music today is kinda weak. Also, no greatest hits and such... but "Yessongs" is in the list!?!

I will say that killing the list at a disc released 24 years ago from a band that is still making music today is kinda weak. Also, no greatest hits and such... but "Yessongs" is in the list!?!

Remember those albums can be added if one votes for them. I didn't want a massive list so I (arbitrarily I'll grant) stopped the list at least at the point that the Rabin years got included (but still left a way for those albums to be included). Also, I'll admit Yessongs is a little sketchy and I debated whether that should go on, but ohh well. Yes is also an album-oriented band, rather than hits. So I think it proper to leave out greatest hits packages (especially if they had only minimal group involvement.) Let's face it, even if I had them all, it's probably gonna come down to the twelve listed, so I figured get down to brass tacks rather than twiddle our thumbs waiting for Union to go down. :D

If someone wants Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe on the list, go for it per the rules above.

but by his rules and assumptions it's a compilation and shouldn't be included :p

the first and third release are my favorites... but the newest stuff isn't all that bad. "The Ladder", "Magnification", "Keystudio" and "Open Your Eyes" are all pretty listenable.
I think any live album by any band counts as an album in its own right - it's not just a compliation of previously released recordings and listening to the live album is often a very different experience. Just my opinion. I love Yessongs and usually choose to listen to that rather than CttE, Fragile or The Yes Album, maybe because I cut my Yes teeth listening to Yessongs (and Relayer, as will be apparent).

So, here's my vote:

10 Yes
10 Time and a Word
10 The Yes Album
10 Fragile
13 Close to the Edge
10 Yessongs
12 Tales From Topographic Oceans
11 Relayer +
10 Going for the One
6 Tormato -
8 Drama
10 90125

Remember it's a game and not meant to be an establishment of authoritative judgement on an album. I like Magnification and Talk (and Yessongs), but just as having 50 people per team out on the football field is chaos rather than a game, so is putting every single thing with the Yes name on it a muddle rather than a game. And again, those albums can be added to the game.

10 Yes
10 Time and a Word
11 The Yes Album +
10 Fragile
13 Close to the Edge
10 Yessongs
12 Tales From Topographic Oceans
11 Relayer
10 Going for the One
5 Tormato -
8 Drama
10 90125
