theory on my blood sugar issues

My doctor set up the tolerance test, which works like this: You don't eat for 24 hours. You go to the doctor's office. They put in an IV so they can draw blood easily. They draw a baseline, then they give you a cup of glucose to drink. 30 minutes later, they draw blood and give you another cup. This goes on for about 5 hours.

When they graph your blood sugar levels, it shows how your body is reacting to the sugar intake and how it is producing insulin to deal with it.

as fun as that sounds, im not sure id make it. if i dont eat a solid meal every 3-5 hours, i get irritable, and eventually weak and tired. keep me hungry long enough and ill try to tear your face off.. if i can catch you in such a state. everyone tells me its in my head.. i can FEEL my stomach digesting itself.. and it hurts.

another hole there is that im terrified of needles and refuse to give blood for any reason. if they want it, they can hand me a vial and a razor blade and ill get it myself. blades are fine.. needles are not. they had better sedate me if they want to poke me with something.

and 5 hours with no grub? that doctor wouldnt walk out of there..

The non-clinical way to deal with it is exactly what you've been doing...keep countering the crashes with more sugar. It's horrible for us, but I still do this.

If you can cut back on sugar spikes and try to get on a diet that keeps a steady, low level flow, you will probably feel better. That's been a decade long battle for me and I still suck at it. I still drink Coke by the case.

i was told to keep a supply of peanut butter crackers.. which is great and all, but eventually i get sick of crackers. they are dry and need to be washed down with something like a sprite. so long as i eat every few hours and keep a couple sprite's in me throughout the day, i feel alright. ive tried to cut back on energy drink intake.. by about 1000%. its once every few months now.. opposed to 3 or 4 in a night, 2 nights a week. ive never had a sip of alcohol.. but i sure am a red bull fan.

if i miss a meal or just go all day without a soda, i feel drained. fortunately im not a coke fan.. so no caffeine problems. any suggestions better than peanut butter crackers for in between meals?
