There are squirrels in my roof

Unfortunately, something like this has taken up residence in the space between my studio ceiling and the roof. Whatever it is is making a horrific racket and must be doing substantial damage.

Roof rats or squirrels are my best guess.

Whatever they are, they must go.

I think it's easier for you to move than evict the squirrels.
Try setting up a bird feeder or just a pile of bird food a good distance from your porch. When they go to eat it, slip a piece of metal roof flashing over their front door and fasten securely. Then taunt the furry little bastards.

Also watch out for this kind of activity - causes more squirrels.

Here's a fairly humane way to get them to vacate. Buy a couple boxes of moth balls and throw those in the hole, eventually they will leave.

I am absolutely serious. Commercially available squirrel repellent is made from fox urine, and usually says so in really huge letter right on the container. You sprinkle it around in your attic, and the squirrels fear the fox that's allegedly "marked" that territory & they go elsewhere.

For those wondering I just ended up cutting down the tree so they couldn't get back in the hole. There has been a rash of dead squirrels on my block lately as well. Wonder if its related...

I would have said that you should have tied another very attractive homewrecker floozy squirrel to a string and sent it in there, seducing the male squirrel and making the female incredibly jealous. Repeat this a few times till they decide to get a squirrel divorce, and while they are in squirrel court, with the babies at grandma squirrels, you board up the entrance. Easy as that.
