Thin the herd/Birdsong short scale bass

Just had to post this. I ordered a Birdsong (Scott Beckwith) designed bass manufactured and sold by Thin the herd custom guitars in Austin. It was delivered today and I played a gig tonight on it. The sound and quality are unbelievable, especially given the price, the price of a new mustang that I also bought a couple of months ago. If anyone is looking for a short scale on a budget these are worth a look. Looks like I may be selling the mustang pj.

Just so you know I am a long time professional symphonic and jazz player as well with two uprights worth over $20k, a 66 jazz and another fender jazz fretless so I have a little experience with basses and gigs. The mustang was a good value but it lacked that something I was looking for, of course, couldn’t expect too much at that price point but the TTH Birdsong vastly exceeded my expectations. Check them out.

I have a zebrawood Hy5 Birdsong I truly love.Scott makes some nice basses.

It's great that you like it so well, but calling it a "TTH Birdsong" is misleading. It's not a Birdsong.

Props to Scott for his design input and for allowing his name to be associated with it, but Leo Fender is at least as much responsible for the design.

Oh a caveat the neck is apparently 1 5/8 at the nut so a little wider but action is fine for me it was not a problem

I thought it was clear Scott designed it although he didn’t manufacture it in my post, sorry if it wasn’t but mostly it is a great value for the price. I may take the plunge on a Birdsong on the near future but I needed a decent short scale immediately and this filled the bill at a budget

Since I have an actual Shortbass by Birdsong, I bought one for a backup and ended out sending it right back. The neck was dented, the paint was chipped and it smelled like it had just come from the paint shop. It was really poorly made.

It's been a while, I can't really say it was poorly made, or at least no worse than any other bass at a similar price point.
I DO remember it being HEAVY with a big fat neck, it really just felt like the OPPOSITE of a Birdsong bass.
The body shape, and the lack or any kind of "upper horn" to offset the placement of the strap made it feel and play like a full scale bass.
I honestly thought it sounded pretty darn good though, couldn't really complain about that.
I'm just to used to the playability and feel of my Birdsong basses I guess.
